Can you say that VA are ok for redemption points travel in J between Perth and Melbourne and Perth and Sydney? Is the product good and are flights regularly available? Are there still renegade planes with make believe product now or is it all properly in place on those runs.?I saw Markis10 post on value available and I now have the new Velocity Amex card on my desk ready to go.

The other question is does a J ticket get you into the VA Lounge or are they like Ansett was where you had to enroll as a member of the Lounge?

I dont know what their J product is like but given PE gets you lounge access, there should be no issue with J flights also getting lounge access on an award basis.

The way I figure it we can always use the points to get to Los Angeles so I think the risk of having a chunk of points that are hard to use has eased quite a lot. Thanks Markis10 for the lounge access answer.

There is no J between Perth and Melbourne... yet. I believe it's coming and there will be J on much of the network by the end of the year.

hum if you get the amex plat original then they give you something like airport lounge and everything else in between for the card that you have to pay 900 bucks for! Since you fly so much that could be worth into?
75,000 points bonus for just spending 500 first two months. Got my points and flying one biz to amsterdam from oz

I can vouch for the product in saying it is absolutely awesome

The only thing I will say is that if you end up on VH-XFB and are an IFE user, do not sit in row 1....

J product currently only exists on A330 flights, so unless you are on the A330 you cannot fly J. At the moment that limits to J to just 2-3 flights a day Sydney-Perth. The rest of those flights are 737 with only PE, not J. DJ expect to have J product on all 737 by the end of the year. If they are able to fulfill that expectation then yes you will get J on any route except ejet routes by the end of this year. Whether or not they will make that timeline is another question entirely. Personally I think 4 months to fit their entire 737 fleet with hard product seems a short period of time, but who knows. One things for sure (as sure as anything gets in aviation) you can probably count on J being across the A330 & 737 fleet by end of first quart next year, so it shouldn't be an issue to spend points in the future.

Thanks for all the replies. You have made me comfortable enough to quickly run up a chunk of points to get ready to use on the new products.I don't need to pick up 75000 points for $900 and I don't need most of the other stuff like travel insurance. As long as I can get into the Lounge with a J ticket redemption I am not worse off with not flying that day on QF.
