From today's PR announcement.

25 August 2011: Virgin Australia group of airlines today announced that it had reached agreement with
Virgin Atlantic to codeshare on their Sydney to Hong Kong service from early 2012.
Under the agreement, Virgin Australia’s long-haul international airline V Australia will code on Virgin
Atlantic’s Sydney-Hong Kong service and eligible Virgin Australia Guests will receive frequent flyer program
benefits and lounge access, including Virgin Atlantic’s Hong Kong Clubhouse.
The service is operated daily out of Sydney and Hong Kong by A340-600 aircraft and features Virgin
Atlantic’s award-winning Upper Class, Premium Economy and Economy configuration.
Virgin Australia CEO John Borghetti said: “Since 2004, Virgin Atlantic has operated a first-rate service
between Sydney and Hong Kong and we are very pleased to be able to offer it to Virgin Australia Guests.
“Hong Kong is a very important market for Australia given it is an international business hub, a popular
leisure destination and has a large Australian expatriate community.
“This agreement compliments our existing global alliance strategy, providing a new codeshare destination for
our Guests and further strengthening our new frequent flyer program launched today”, Mr Borghetti said.
Virgin Atlantic CEO Steve Ridgway said: “After seven years flying to Sydney and working with Virgin Blue
and then V Australia, Virgin Atlantic is looking forward to welcoming Virgin Australia Guests on its daily
Sydney-Hong Kong flights when the new codeshare begins next year. Virgin Atlantic has long led premium
airlines with innovative features like Premium Economy, fantastic flat beds in Upper Class and awardwinning
in-flight entertainment which set the standard for Virgin Australia’s own long-haul operations.”
Virgin Atlantic flights to Hong Kong depart from Sydney International Airport daily at 2.25pm.

Hong Kong anyone? :)

That's good news. Now what VA should do is to have one SYD-HKG to complement existing VS SYD-HKG flight, so to have twice daily service.

This is great news for those of us in Melbourne. I'd be very happy to land 8:10am, head into town for the day and then come back in the evening for dinner and a shower before boarding on to London. Last year I did the reverse of this with Cathay from Zurich and it was fantastic to have a whole day in HK.

I think the codeshare went away for a little while when VS dropped its Sydney to Hong Kong route. Now it’s back this July with VA/VS metal.
