Hey everyone,
Today we announced that we will be commencing a double -daily week day service to Emerald in the central Queensland highlands, from 16th January 2012.

This service will be operated by our new ATR-72 aircraft.

This follows on from the recent announcements flying between Brisbane and Gladstone, which begins on Oct 17th, Brisbane and Port Macquarie from Oct 19th, Sydney and Port Macquarie from Oct 19th, and the new Capital Connect six daily return services between Sydney to Canberra from Oct 19th.
(All flights are subject to regulatory approvals)

Well I won't have too much use for a service to Emerald, but I am pleased to hear regionals are opening up. Congrats, hope it goes well.

That's great news. The current QF fares are just stupid sometimes. I can see why they were so keen to get a QP out there...

You guys need to be hitting Moranbah sooner than later, it's an absolute cash cow for Qantas right now.

The next place i want them to fly to is Bundaberg, so people on there facebook page stop complaining

Then they would just complain that Bundaberg isn't on the Happy Hour specials ever day! I bet it is a bit of a laugh for the reps lol

I suspect I'll be trying this one.

I think my previous suggestion of a cafe voucher would work well at EMD. Given 90% of the people on the QF flights will be in the QP, it might quieter in the terminal with a Latte and Muffin (or xx_X and pie as would be more appropriate to the market).

i always like seeing a new destination and/or route started up, so yay for emerald! given i will be in the land of freedom (known to many as post-hsc time..), i'm keen to get on the emerald inaugural (and with the wonders of daylight savings, i coudl even make a 7am brisbane departure for a feasible daytrip from sydney). i'm just wondering when flights will be on sale (guesstimation??) and what prices do people on this forum expect to see for these flights (understandably, they will be lower than those of qlink, but what's the guess - $89??)

I'd be very surprised to see the lead-in fares at less than $100. It's a gold mine (no pun intended) route so Virgin would be stupid to just give it away. Sale fares should be well below that though (QF sometimes drops the odd $79 on the EMD route). With any luck they'll do a cheap launch sale to get it started.
