The approvals for the codeshare were granted by IASC last week.

Downside is the codeshare agreement is confidential

Hope the benefits on non-codeshare flights turn out OK, I actually have an intra-Europe flight on airberlin booked at the moment!

Hi Josh, you can now earn Velocity Points with all airberlin operated flights, however Status Credits can only be earned when travelling on a Virgin Australia marketed flight with a VA flight number. Hope this helps.

I don't know about anyone else but I work out how many SC I get on a flight before I work out how many miles/points it will get me.

Is it too much to ask that for all partner flights throughout the world that you can get SC?

I am very keen to see whether VA flights earn SCs on Air Berlin. If they do, then it's a no brainer to direct my handful of QF flights and any VA flights i have spare to Topbonus. It would be a win/win if i could OW status that way.

VA flight numbers will earn as per the existing VA table, unless they add some sort of exception in....

The AB chart does say tho earn Status Credits it needs to be the VA flight number.

It wouldn't surprise me if it's a limitation imposed by oneworld, given that AB already have an Australian partner within the alliance..

I'd be more inclined to fly with them as a Gold FF with VA instead of using my Gold QF now.

Bloody stupid with OW you can't access the 'Waiting Areas' but with this code share you can as a VA frequent flyer Gold and above.

Be interesting to see how it works as at some of the airports you have to swipe your card to get in (didn't notice a phone or anything but be interesting to see if access actually happens!)

Only good thing I have expereinced with Air Belin was seat selection nothing else was any different and no treatment or welcome to frequent flyers.

We can confirm that VA codeshare services operated by airberlin WILL earn Status Credits.
Info on SC earn rates is available on the website - it states that Status Credits earn levels for Virgin Australia are the same for codeshare flights operated by partner airlines with a VA flight number.
