Looking through the new points tables and trialing redemptions:

BNE-DPS Economy: 23900+$86 or 29700 Business: 47800+$105 (39,833 MR)
BNE-SIN Economy: 29000+$75 Business: 57900+$75 (48,250 MR)
BNE-LAX Business: 94100+$347 (78,500 MR)

SYD-AUH-FRA First: 156400 + $73 (130,384 MR)

LHR-AUH First: 74500+$241 (62,083 MR)
FRA-AUH First: 74500+$86 (62,083 MR)

In Economy, always cheaper than the equivalent AAdvantage award (via SPG/AA).
So in Business, slightly cheaper than than the equivalent AAdvantage award. A lot cheaper in First.

Probably not the case on short-haul redemptions, i.e. Australia -> Australia/NZ or South Pacific.

Citibank, via the Citibusiness Credit Card not on the list of participating Banks.

Hey guys,
Good to see you've had a look already!

We haven't done a Bonus Points offer this year, and have seen plenty of questions asked about when it was going to be done again!

This is an incredibly popular promotion, and clearly one that can positively boost your Velocity Points balances, by transferring your credit or charge card points to Velocity.

Visit the website here for more details.

(Promotion will end on October 31st)

I was happy when I saw the promotion but then read and found out that my points can't be transferred.. Thought it was general, was hoping it meant Bankwest and Qantas points could be transferred...

Hi All,

Did some rough calculations and am I right in thinking if transferring from Commonwealth awards to Velocity (with a 2:1 ratio), even with the bonus they are still better off with Commonwealth

e.g.$1000 David Jones Voucher

Commonwealth: 164,000 points
Velocity: 125000

Am I missing something or you guys getting a better conversion ratio?

CBA 164K = 82000 VFF + 20% = 98,400 VFF

I don't know that thats how it would be calculated, but I bet it is :)

Redemption value is probably different since I calculated it last, which was before the relaunch, but back then, I got 0.7c / Velocity point.

For the sake of this post assuming its the same = 98,400 * 0.007 = $688.80 of value.

How much are the DJ vouchers? 13,500 or 14,500 / hundred dollars?? I seem to remember they were about 14,500/100$

CBA 164K = 11x 100$ vouchers at 14,500/100$ = $1,100

So yes, better value in cash unless the redemption on Velocity can be increased past 0.7c / point.

I was happy with the announcement but Velocity still really really struggles with premium class long haul avails which is what I want to book (not Anyseat).

A real pity!! Not sure what to do...

I think the business class tickets Perth-Sydney are the best way to use the points.
From my calculations, you only need 27 200 AMEX points to fly J one way Perth - Sydney

Bargain!

I was initially happy about this, but then checked the velocity website for availability in premium cabins. Not the best.

Looks like the cost to get to Europe in J on VA/EY is about 200k. On SQ *A it's 150k. With the 20% bonus - the gap gets somewhat closer but availablity is limited on VA.

However Thai have heaps of J availability which can be booked through SQ. Mind you, im looking during the Xmas break, so availability is far and few between - but still.....

ALSO: Business class one way to Europe on NZ/SQ is 140k (!!) through Velocity - what a rip!

Hi,

Are the points tables for one way or return award?

Thanks,
K.

We have to be a bit cautious though. Krisflyer points are usually worth more to begin with, therefore you need less to get anywhere. Amex MR points for example, are usually transferred at 1:1 for Velocity and 3:2 for Kris (if I remember correctly).

Nevertheless, always a good idea to calculate the perception of points value as actual money so that its easier to compare value.

Current rates from American Express Membership Rewards:

1 MR = 1 Krisflyer
10 MR = 12 Virgin Velocity Frequent Flyer
10 MR = 12 Virgin Atlantic
121300 MR = 40,029 SPG & 40,000 SPG = 50,000 AA

Taxes will be the highest through Krisflyer. Velocity has cheap taxes for redemptions on Etihad.
