Does anyone know if the Perth DJ Lounge is up and running (or near)?
Got a trip there coming up.

Late last year., there were some announcements that it would be opening in April, but nothing seems to have happened as yet.

We have had some issues with Perth Airport - don't have an ETA handy but The Lounge is coming - just not sure the date on website is accurate.
cheers

Any news yet?

There was a half page ad in the West Australian yesterday for "The Lounge", no mention of one in Perth though.

I came through PER on Tuesday and for the first time there is a whole new section opened up to the right of the old baggge carousel. Not sure yet if the DJ lounge is opened up though.

Looks really good from a quick glimpse but will thouroughly check it out next Tuesday when I head back home.

Kages - was in Perth a fortnight ago and couldnt see any development or construction for that matter. The former Golden Wing Lounge is still being utilised by Alliance Airlines for their BHP Billiton Mining contract (the place was full at 5am) and I couldnt see any reference to Virgin on the door.

The only other possible place I can think of DJ putting it (unless they do/have done a deal with Alliance to share the old GW) is to use the former AN Managers lounge, which was by all evidence still there (just opposite to the Alliance lounge entry) but the entryway to that looks like it was sealed up a long time ago. I peered into the floor to ceiling window just beside the now sealed up entry to have a look in there but it was pretty dark.

So in summary, no - sadly no evidence of any lounge yet. Perhaps with the downturn it's been put on ice until things pick up? :?:

I asked the Virin Staffer checking me in what happened to The Lounge. She stated that Virgin were having some 'hassles' with Perth Airport Authority and that it wasn't likely to happen any time soon.

It sounds like it may have become too expensive / hard?

I doubt that a PER based "staffer" would know much about what is going on.

I read somewhere (and I think posted in another thread) that DJ are showing some reluctance to commit to moving to the new Terminal WA. Other more willing airlines are not going to move without DJ so the whole thing is something of an impasse. Why DJ don't want to move is purely speculative but it may also impact on the status of "The Lounge".

And the speculated reason is???

I personally wouldn't want to speculate but one reason could be money or perhaps to block Qantas' proposed stopgap expansion into the terminal that DJ and others vacate.

Can you please explain that to me, l'm kind of lost.
Virgin + Skywest are in 1 terminal and Qantas has the other one to itself. I don't see how Virgin can really move to another terminal?
Virgin should just pull it's finger out and finish the Lounge@Perth and while at it, join a world wide alliance for God's sake. What's wrong with this airline?!?! Seems to me like there are monkeys at the helm.

I read somewhere that the existing terminal 2 & 3 are all going to Qantas and everyone else going to new multiuser terminal on the other side of the carpark, or something like that.

The bottom line is Virgin haven't delivered on their well publicised promise and are letting down their customers (again).
I travel frequently between Perth and Brisbane and now refuse to fly Virgin as I hate having to wait around in that joke of a terminal.

It's on the other side of the airport next to the current international terminal. Named (no doubt by some guru paid a huge fee) Terminal WA it is to serve all regional and LCC's. As you surmise, this allows QF to expand into the vacated area.

If DJ don't move, the others have intimated that they won't either, since they don't want to be loners. This in turn would mean that QF would have to expand their current terminal and would not then want to leave it for the new Domestic terminal when it is eventually built. That in turn would delay the building of the Dom terminal, which in turn would put a hold on expansion of the International terminal.

I think I'd choose the airport development over the Lounge, if that is what it boils down to.

I hope that they put in an underpass or some sort of link if this does go ahead. To link the new domestic terminals IF this does go ahead.
Some more infrastructure needs to be put in place also. How about putting in a railway line from the airport to the city, that's for starters. Come on Perth, please fix the tin shed up a little bit.
