Virgin Mobile reducing Velocity earn

I don't think this has been posted yet. Virgin Mobile seems to be reducing the number of Velocity points on their plans from 3 points per $1 to 2 points per $1, as of 31 January 2016.

From the email sent to customers:

How do you sell something as negative as reduced earning on partner services?

Not happy but then again at ~$40/month this "enhancement" is not going to make too much of a difference.

What is going on? Why are so many places decreasing the velocity point earn lately? Did Virgin jack up the cost of points or something?
