Virgin nearly doubles annual profit | Herald Sun

VIRGIN Blue says its outlook is positive for the current financial year after nearly doubling its annual net profit in 2006/07.
The airline operator booked a bottom-line result of $215.8 million - up 92.3 per cent on the prior year.

"Financial performance is strong, our outlook is positive and among the world's airlines, Virgin Blue's margins now rank among the top few most profitable carriers in the world," Virgin Blue chairman Neil Chatfield said at the company's annual general meeting in Briabane today. ...

Overall a good result.

I don't want to detract from DJs performance in any way but I think these latest figures clearly highlight how much Australian carriers have everything their favour. Airfares are still way overpriced and getting higher. Did I hear somewhere that DJ are to increase their fuel surcharges because of increasing fuel prices?

It would be nice to see competition in Australia but so far with the introduction of Tiger, Air Asia and Viva Macau I have seen nothing to indicate that long term airfare prices are going to drop.
