Virgin offer of Platinum

I'm Qantas Platinum, and Virgin wrote to me via my work email offering me complementary Virgin Platinum for a year. I'm not a Virgin Australia member and have never flown with them. I fly mainly international business class but not enough to maintain this level of status with both Qantas and Virgin (roughly a trip to Europe or the US every quarter). Should I bother accepting this offer?

Sounds a bit like a scam. Are you sure it is genuine? How would they have got your email address and details?

Welcome to AFF Steve D. As Daver6 says, it may be a scam, but if its genuine, it wouldn't hurt to accept it. What do you have to lose? It means you aren't slavishly bound to Qantas for all your flying. Its a great feeling.

Give Virgin a call and see if its legit.

If it is a real offer (and I don't have any reason to believe it wouldn't be - Virgin does do these kinds of things sometimes), why not accept it?

Even if you only fly with Virgin and/or its partners rarely, you'll get Platinum this year, then Gold next year and Silver the year after. You can also leverage your Platinum status to get an equivalent tier with IHG or Hilton hotels.

No. As VA Platinum you are automatically offered to be either Hilton Diamond or IHG Platinum membership. Most would choose Hilton Diamond due to the benefits.

Got it, thanks for that. I've only been as high as Gold in VA so I didn't realise such a benefit existed. Just to chime in another vote for OP - take the status offer, there's literally no downside and seems like upside even if you don't fly VA (including the hotel status benefit).

For the Hilton benefit, best to invoke in the new year - this gives up to 27 months of Diamond.
