If you do a route search for today, for flights from Perth to Sydney there are two QF flight numbers

QF8574
QF8566

Weird???

It would be on the flight status page. I see qf flights appear every now and again.

I suspect its an issue with a filter that dj it have used to only display their flights but it could also have something to do with freight or even other flights where dj staff are deadheading on.

Interestingly if you search Google for those flight numbers, the first hit is for the VA flight status page:

Flight information for QF8574/Today/plan | Flight Status | Virgin Australia Group of Airlines
Flight information for QF8566/Today | Flight Status | Virgin Australia Group of Airlines

Presumably it's some sort of QF positioning flight that DJ's website doesn't filter out.

Don't think so. QF574 and QF566 are actual Qantas flight numbers for those times. Not sure what the 8000 series is for.

Aren't QF positioning flights normally QF6xx_ ?

If you look at the 8574 it corresponds with QF574 timings, not sure about 8566.

It is strange isn't it?

I'm fairly sure this is because VH-XFB is (once again) grounded in PER and was not able to operate the DJ552 this morning. This flight is now showing as leaving tonight at 00:00 (11Apr), together with tonight's DJ572. They would probably have put passengers on those QF flights if the remaining DJ flights were not able to absorb the overflow just to minimise disruption to everyone.

It is Virgin Australia buying seats on those Qantas flights eg QF 8574 was in place of DJ 552 due to depart at 545am today resheduled to 0000 tomorrow. It happens offen when the A3330s fail and happens al lot when they down down grade 737 800 to 700s. My Darwin flight was like that 2 weeks ago down graded and they bought seats on the morning BNE DRW flight

Qantas and virgin America have an interline agreement. Not that odd.

LoL. As I previously mentioned in another thread, VANTAS.

Just a Q to the masses, anyone know the number of interlining QF has done with VA (DJ)?

As mentioned before, VH-XFB is grounded in PER, resulting in YFC coming in to operate the DJ569 (SYD-PER) today, which was scheduled to be operated by VH-XFA off the DJ560 (PER-SYD) flight. VH-XFA instead operated the delayed DJ565 (SYD-PER) service, which was supposed to be operated by VH-XFB ex-DJ552.

VH-XFA will then operate the very delayed DJ552 service leaving at 00:00 (11Apr) upon arriving in PER from DJ565. YFC will operate the DJ572 service for 10Apr, which leaves at the same time. I am guessing they hope to put XFB back in service on the DJ552 (not the delayed service from today) tomorrow morning.

No surprise they put people on the QF flights as I am sure there will be alot of annoyed people if they had to wait almost an entire day to catch their flights given that the other DJ flights seem to be almost at capacity. Fortunately enough, I escaped Perth on the DJ572 on a last minute flight change last night before the chaos this morning...

I saw this ex-Mel a couple of months ago during some storms. My assumption was they are internal virgin 'Qantas' flight numbers so when they book pax on Qantas they can account for them.
