Hi all,

Has anyone found a good travel agent who has experience with the Virgin RTW ticket? I'm planning quite a bit of travel for next year and of course would like to keep it with Virgin if possible. Since I never use travel agents for booking tickets etc I don't know any good ones, so would love some advice.

Thanks!

What does BestFlights have? Can't comment on their worth as an online agent. I mention I'm in Darwin and they fob me off.

Look for a RTW specialist. I did use Best Flights when I booked my Circle Pacific (VA/SQ) fare & the service was good. At least they had some idea, unlike the people I spoke to at the VA & SQ call centres & two travel agent chains. But they'll charge you a pretty penny if you need to change your plans.

Be sure to check this page for prices, terms & conditions & suggested routings. As has been suggested on other threads, Virgin's RTW routings & partnerships aren't as big as other groups.

Most of the RTW fares are worked out from either Brisbane, Sydney or Melbourne. So make clear to them that you'll make your own way to those starting points (I'd book direct with the airline to get to BNE/SYD/MEL personally) & then it should not be an issue.

I've emailed Flight Centre and STA to see if they can give me some options. I've heard bad things about Best Flights' flexibility, so I'm trying to stay away from them unless I need to. I don't even know if I can fit my trip into a VA rtw - my current plans need PER - IST - LHR - HNL - WUH/PEK (or SIN with a side trip) - PER.

Thanks for your help so far. If anyone has any ideas on good RTW agents, please let me know.

Try Travel Associates, they are a subsidiary of Flight Centre, so you can get the same price guarantee, but they are more personalised and more experienced. At the Travel Associates I have used they even offer a glass of wine or espresso coffee while they meet with you.

Good luck with FC & STA....

I had a TA at FC tell me that it would take her an hour to check my routing & the T & C to see if it was valid. So if it takes a TA an hour to do that, imagine what it would take an ordinary punter?

That's not going to be an easy routing with the VA group. Check & double check the days & flights you want with the different airlines before you speak to the RTW agent.

I asked VA this very question recently and not a satisfactory reply : For Aust/LHR/JFK/SFO and home they can only quote Aust/LHR leg with VS via HKG - because VS are the trans-Atl link.. If I want to go with EY (and I do, for work in Dubai) then too bad. On top of that the fare was stonkingly high, so forget it.
