I was looking at some flights in the booking engine (the new flights to Perth on the A330 look interesting...) and noticed that an option from the dropdown menu now is to fly from Paraburdoo to Learmonth or Perth. Skywest doesn't ly to Paraburdoo at present, so that can't be the reason it's there - is there a chance we could see Virgin flights there soon? I mean, it is certainly a destination ripe for some competition with QantasLink operating up to 5 717 flights a day. Thoughts?

It seems to me in a very brief view that VA are doing a lot with regional WA.

VA has not put a big effort into QLD regional IMO.

VA does not do flight from either BNE to ISA or TSV to ISA and also no flights to Longreach or Emerald or Moranbah.

Just IMO

I think SkyWest flies there with their own metal going on this:

Skywest Airlines will launch a new weekly service Learmonth – Paraburdoo commencing Monday 28th November 2011. This schedule will be extended to include additional Tuesday flights, effective 13 December 2011

Got that info from here: http://ningaloo.net/skywest-airlines-learmonth-paraburdoo-service/ ... however it as listed as a terminated destination on the Wikipedia page for SkyWest. Strange!

But PBO is definitely bookable :)

That may be about to change as Emerald is now a DJ destination. A start at least!

I cant find it in the booking engine... then again that's probably just me being selectively blind as usual

You need to do a dummy booking for anywhere (e.g. Melbourne - Sydney) Then, once the flight options are displayed, there is the search engine option on the side of the page. It's an option here.

I'm surprised that VA doesn't expand WA or QLD aggressively. There is lots of money to be made from the FIFO workforce that needs to get carted around.

Agreed. I really think VA should explore a further partnership in this regard with Skywest, perhaps buying in?
Even without a partnership as such for FIFO ops, I'm sure Virgin could be at least somewhat successful going it on their own. The one thing I would question however is the suitability of the jungle jets for hot and high ops from short mine site strips...

Will they be using a bus?

*some of us have a long memory......

The PBO strip isn't really your run of the mill mine site runway.

Certainly not. I'm referring more to the sites such as argyle/ telfer etc which are smaller airfields and are more demanding of aircraft (if VA does enter into the charter market etc)

National Jet had BAe146 planes with the Red Roo on the tail. Many years ago. I think that FMG's Cloudbreak is using Skywest Fokker 100's.

We actually commenced flying into Emerald today (this particular rep actually flew up and back for the inaugural flight).

More info can be found here

Have no information for you at this stage about any new routes into regional Perth.

Sorry thanks for adding flights when I mention it.

Do you believe that in the near future VA will fly to ISA.
