Yes it's in Y, but given the cost of acquiring 15000 is very low for those in the know, something of a bargain, pricing is one way:

15,000 total miles
AUD 182.99 total taxes, fees, charges and Carrier imposed surcharges*

Tempting.

But fear of the unknown will win out for now.

Probably worth mentioning the same rate is applicable across the Atlantic.

What are the main ways to get va miles? I can think of amex reward points and I hear car hire can be good. I would have thought that carrier charges would kill this though compared to a qf sale as they seem to be about 400

VS miles can be earned a few ways. One is car hire and the other is Hilton stays.

If you are someone like me then both of these are perfect as I hardly ever rent a car for more than 1 day or stay in a Hilton for more than one night. Each one of these is 1,000 VS points.

And then when Amex have their 15%+ bonus on transfers. Well.... you decide....

Ok cool I generally go for Iberia avios which are 750 per stay and transfer to ba avios later. Sounds like a good deal for cars.

In general sounds like a good option when award space and no cheap hk fares

Yes the 15,000 VS bonus points for 5 Hilton stays end of last year was good. ;)

I was set on J but J "taxes and sundries" cash payment was considerable last I looked. The Y deal may be the one.

Is this a promo deal or semi-permanent?

The other way to quickly rack up VS points is to buy them. End of last year VS had a good promo of 25% bonus miles which looked good at the time (although I didn't end up grabbing any).

With the new Delta partnership, they're currently offering 50% extra base miles (for PS status....not sure about others).

From my recent research, that is a permanent deal. Also, taxes are the same for J as Y. I posted details in a Hertz car rental thread.

What's the cost to purchase points?
