VS Redemption (BNE-SYD-HKG) using Velocity points - possible?

Has anyone tried doing this (or "any other Aus city-SYD-HKG")? I know the Velocity site tells you to call up to request VS reward (not ASA) redemptions, which complicates things a bit. I'm hoping to travel to Sydney on the VS codeshare (on DJ metal), then the VS flight to HKG - Im not 100% sure on this, but the redemption cost 'should' then be based on the total travel distance BNE-SYD + SYD-HKG, rather than being costed as two separate flights. I'm happy to be corrected :)
