Recomendations for hotel in Wanchai for 1 night late April? No budget constraints really - quality more important.

Have enjoyed the Novotel in the past. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was great. Good service for such a seedy part of town :D

Not my choice of locations - I will be arriving close to midnight and then have early morning 1-2hr meeting then back to airport onto PVG - just need a good hotel.

Yes! Stay in Central (some excellent possibilities there) or Causeway Bay - both next to Wan Chai (a few minutes walk).

Why not stay at the Conrad?

Right near Admiralty and 1 km from Wan Chai MTR.

Agreed. But Admiralty MTR to Wan Chai MTR is less than even 1km. 1 MTR stop and much faster to just walk it!

The area the Novotel is in is really not too bad. I stayed across the road for a month in December and the area wasn't that seedy, with some decent restaurants and shops nearby.

All the "fun" places seem to be further up closer to the MTR station which is a 10 minute walk from the Novotel.

Not a lot of high-end hotels right in Wan Chai. One nice one is the Renaissance which is next to the Convention and Exhibition Centre. Depending on exactly where in Wan Chai you need to be, you could be a short walk or a 1-hop MRT tiip from Central (eg Conrad, JW Marriott) or Causeway Bay (Excelsior).

Isn't the Hyatt in Wanchai? Nice club lounge with fantastic view...

Ahh yes, Hyatt is on the other side of the Exhibition and Convention Centre from the Renaissance. Both on Harbour Road.

W Hong Kong? Its on the airport express line? for to/from the airport convenience.

Otherwise, Novotel WanChai seems alright when I stayed there. Clean and pretty modern.

To be honest, Upper House, Marriott and Conrad are all right next door to Wan Chai and very nice.

Conrad is so close by and an excellent hotel. Wouldn't consider anything else.

Set the alarm clock 10 mins earlier and stay at the FS.

Locked and loaded for Renaissance - thanks to all contributors.

Amazing huh - 15 yrs travelling to China and back 10 times a year on average and this will actually be first time I have set foot outside HK airport.
