If you think you need a few dollars and think you will use your JETSTAR MASTERCARD to get the cash out of a hole in the wall let me give you a word of advice.............DON'T

I withdrew $ 700 at a Bendigo Bank on the 22nd November, their fee was $ 2.00, fair enough. Debit through my card was $ 702.

When I went back to my office I BPayed $ 4,200 into the card to cover the cash withdrawal and other debits I was going to make through Australia Post BPay.

Got my statement today

CASH ADVANCE FEE of $ 21.06

INTEREST $ 0.04

I queried the cash advance fee to be told that their interest rate was 21.99 % on cash advances ( I knew that ) AND there was a Cash Advance Fee of 3.00 % or $ 5.00 whichever was the GREATER. I queried and said I thought that was International, to be told NO and directed to a page on the FAQ's of their website.

I asked for copies of their original documents to be sent to e because I can't see it in the T&C's I have.

I reckon that is URSERY and totally unreasonable

how many people are copping these charges when the friendly Safeway girl says "cash out sir ? "

as I said if you are thinking of using this card for a cash withdrawal don't, it is a complete and utter ripoff. $ 5.00 I can wear but 3 % to take another Bank's money out of another Bank's ATM machine is just plain wrong.

I'm now going to check all my cards to see what their policies are as I NEVER draw cash out of my cards and this one time I needed to get US Dollars for my father who lives elsewhere and the Bank wanted cash

It's pretty common. Not a great way to get cash, but if you absolutely need it then and there and don't have the savings immediately available, it's still cheaper than most other methods.

I would never get cash out through a credit card because I know something like this is likely to happen. I'm already a bit peeved it happens when I buy lottery tickets online, luckily I'm an infrequent gambler though.

In WA (Lotterywest), there are no cash advance fees if you use a debit MasterCard or debit Visa.

I accidentally used my 28Degree card to withdraw cash in Shanghai, instead of the Citiplus card.
The colours are too similar!
Got charged $5.79 (for withdrawing approx 200AUD)

Ursery is a rare surname.... or possibly something to do with bears.....

I think you meant Usury....;)

That’s pretty much what happens when withdrawing cash from credit cards.

Cash advance fee is very common with all banks, when using a credit card. For example the 4 big banks all charge 2% of the amount advanced, with a minimum fee of $2.50. Morale of the tale is only ever withdraw cash from a savings account, never a credit card.

whichever was the GREATER.

That is standard across the industry.

I suspect none as I don't believe it's possible to get cash out as part of a credit purchase. I've tried unsuccessfully in the past.

With debit cards you presumably aren't able to draw more money than the account has available, so cash advance shouldn't be an issue.

Cash advance fees relate to the unsecured debt which your bank is risking, regardless of where the physical cash is drawn from. Even if Jetstar ATMs existed, you'd still incur the cash advance fees.

They'd probably be as sympathetic as when I complained about being caught out by "up to 55 days interest free" the first time I used a credit card.

Chalk it up as a learning experience.

I used to do it all the time with 28 Degrees when it had no cash advance fee plus fee-free withdrawals from Westpac ATMs. Very convenient but sadly long gone.
