Am off to OOL next weekend and utilising my brand new shiny Gold Velocity card courtesy of the Tier Match. If I do not have access to a printer can I still check in via the web and print out the boarding pass at the kiosks at OOL? The VB website is not clear on this.:?:

I have done this in the past and just asked the lounge to print me a BP when I did not have a printer, AFAIK you cannot use the Kiosk like with QF, it seems a tad unfair to penalize people who lack a printer when it comes to seat choices given there is not pre-allocation available.

Alas no Lounge at OOL:(

I used web check-in for a flight from MEL to SYD on December 27, without printing a boarding pass (no printer at home - must get one!), hoping I could print one using the kiosk - no such luck! It was no trouble for the service desk to print my boarding pass, which was lucky, because the check-in queue was a mile long!

Return flight on Jetstar a week later I had my boarding pass e-mailed to me, but was in the bush (Flinders Ranges), so no access to a printer - no problems getting it printed at the check-in counter.

Both DJ & JQ printed my boarding passes without question and without charge - very impressive!

Yes you can print at a kiosk or you can have it printed at the gate (or the Lounge where there is one) if you prefer. Other alternative is to use the mobile check-in, which until we get 2D readers working properly, require you to print your boarding pass at the kiosk.

I cannot print a boarding pass from the Kiosk at the airport if I have used Web Check-In and not printed a boarding pass. Need to go to service queue or bag drop to get boarding pass.

Last flight was November so not sure if there have been any 'enhancements' since....

Worth pointing out (for domestic product comparison reasons) - I think that Qantas has the best system/process, at the moment.

Check-in ANY way you like, for most^ domestic flights - online, on your mobile, even at the airport (and throw away the boarding pass - & yes I have tried this process personally) because all you will need "to board" (irrespective of how you checked in) is your barcoded FF card^!

Scan it at the gate, and your slip prints out...

^ available as part of the NGCI rollout.

I hope that Virgin Blue's system is a flexible/versatile, once they roll out all their 2D barcode scanners!

I will be trying it this weekend, so you say with the recent updates I can check in online to get my preferred seat and then use the kiosk to print out my boarding pass, or have I got this wrong.

So really I am flying on the airline with the lessor check in system.

My understanding is that if you have web-checked but don't have a boarding pass you can go to the kiosk and basically check-in again (which is just entering your identifying details) to reprint your boarding pass and it should show the seat you previously selected. But if you haven't got bags to check you might as well just go to the gate and have them reprint it or to the Lounge.

The kiosk has two icons on the welcome screen with the photo of the gorgeous Lauren. One you click on if you have already checked in via Mobile (which just prints your pass) and the other to do a regular check in (which also has seat selection and dangerous goods declaration). Try hitting the "already checked in via Mobile" and see if that works (logic suggests it should but we are dealing with IT systems here!).

I used the print at gate system in CBR once. It worked really well. Gate CSA was very helpful.

Had to do this because the printer in the QP the day before wouldn't do the barcode on the BP

One hopes that they are simply a few steps in time behind the rollout position that QF has reached, rather than not looking at implementing the same functionality.

FWIW my Velocity card does have a barcode on the back, so fingers crossed.

I don't know whether it's the processors, internet connection or what, but the kiosks do seem to pause for up to 10 seconds between each page when checking in... I'm not sure why this is but it's frustrating. Looking at the kiosks I suspect the hardware is getting on a bit.

Dave, any chance of getting kiosks at Darwin airport? I had no access to a printer, had only hand luggage and expected to be able to print my BP from one of the kiosks. Couldn't find one anywhere (unless I wasn't looking hard enough). Had to line up to get my BP.

Checked in via web yesterday while at the Melbourne Qantas J lounge and then went to the check in kiosk at Melbourne Airport, the Melbourne check in kiosk has the option for mobile or new check in.

Nope didn't work and I tried it at 2 machine at 2 different airports.

Tried again at Canberra where I am now but there is no option to reprint a boarding pass as there is no mobile boarding option.

The machine in Melbourne.

Same experience for me at MEL, tried both options too.

Thanks for the feedback folks - will take this up with IT as I am sure it is functionality that we spec'd. It may be tied up to the same issue that has stopped us from using the 2D barcodes in which case hopefully resolved in early March. Will have it checked out and advise back.
cheers

Will be interesting to get the feedback.

Everyone should know by now I am happy to fly around the country for no real reason other than to find out what part of Virgin Blue doesn't work properly. ;)

Trip report for last weekend to come soon.

I see that it has been more than a year since this thread has been active..... and I have the question has anything changed at Virgin at all re this not being able to reprint one's boarding pass?

I checked in online for a Virgin flight tomorrow and went to print my boarding pass but wasn't connected to a printer at the time, thought oh well I'll just come back and do it later.... but no can't do that....

....so any news or suggestions on this, or is it just the same as it was a year ago and I have to go to checkin counter...????

Yep! That seems to be the case!

It seems these days the only benefit of doing Web check in with DJ I'd to lock in a seat.
