I travel an enormous amount and use hotel web sites and what i just did has staggered me as I assumed if i accessed one of the main hotel booking web sites i would get the same prices for the same room and same date stay whether I am using a laptop in australia or in indonesia. Not so theres nearly a 20% diffirence for the same room on the same web site for the same date stay and same hotel booking it from a computer located in indonesia to the price given using a computer in australia. I just did it as there is a group of us going to singapore for the furniture exhibition and my business partner in indonesia kept coming back with much cheaper prices and we were both looking at the same web site! I have booked the room using my credit card details from an indonesian computer by using my wife to do it now. Maybe i am just a bit dumb and never noticed it before! Just for your interest the 2 night stay difference was $381 usd in indonesia and $448 usd from australia so I saved $67. Now i stay in hotels maybe 80 nights a year so the savings could be considerable.

Yep last year we went to Iloilo City in Philippines.

We actually rang the hotel and booked in local currency and it was half the price of paying for it in Aussie Dollars.

I generally don't use web sites for booking accommodation.

I normally get better rates by ringing the accommodation and if the rate is higher than the net i mention it and they will always match it and beat it.

Yes, but as the OP said, obtaining a web price in the country in which the hotel is located can be (and I have found this the case) is cheaper than if looking up a price in another country. Probably the same as complaining that people flying on QF who book in the UK get far better prices than those of us here in AU!

The price should be the price.

I would expect so difference in price from a web site to a the accom venue but nothing big.

I understand that the web site owner wants a commision for doing all the work to have the web site advertising there product.
