Anyone affected here? I had some friends on the ANZ flight, not sure what the arrangements are at present

Fog roled in at 1pm and is staying put!!

Something to do with WEL not having the right equipment to deal with planes coming in/going out of heavy fog? Atleast that was I heard last time I got stuck there by the fog... Oh the joys, it was the early Qantas flight to SYD; The only intl. flight that didn't get cancelled that morning! Somehow got through the fog in a last ditch attempt to land :?

I've never understood why this paralyses us and not Europe?

The powers that be have determined the cost of putting in place the equipment outweighs the gain, in other words closure due to fog does not cause enough trouble!

I've never understood why this paralyses us and not Europe?

After the week I've had I can assure you it can paralyse Europe too. Was booked on Swiss to fly Florence - Zurich on Tuesday - fog rolled in, flight cancelled and told to go to Pisa for alternate flight where the weather was "fine". Arrived in Pisa and sitting on the plane on the tarmac for an hour before "it's too foggy to take off". So after a night in Pisa we reboarded the following lunchtime, having already missed my Wednesday appointments - upon arriving in Zurich sure enough my week got better when my bags didnt make it and took to days to catch up to me!

Last night I was coming back from Zurich to Florence and my flight was again cancelled due to fog in Florence. Moved on to the Milan flight which was followed by a lovely 5 hour bus ride at 50km/h back to Florence, finally arriving back at 1am this morning.

This is my first winter spent in Florence (normally here over the summer) and I think I will be sticking to the trains from now on!
