Went to Mauritius last week

Welcome to AFF.

I enjoyed a great trip to Club Med in Mauritius about a decade ago.

Welcome to AFF @Joliffe .

I'm planning to visit Maritius - can you tell us a bit about it? How you got there (how were the flights?), where you stayed, and sights seen?

A Trip Report would be great :) . Don't worry about format etc - just write/post pics your own thing.

Welcome @Joliffe .
Not related to Eric by any chance. He was a great Cartoonist with several good series - Saltbush Bill and sandy Bpight. My grandfather knew him well and I got to meet him as a youngster.

Definitely keen to hear more about Mauritius. Going to have a week stop over on the way home in March so really keen to hear of any experiences

Had a really fantastic time in Mauritius in 2015. We stayed in Flic n Flac but travelled all over the island. If you are interested in exploring then definitely hire a car. It is an easy place to drive around as long as you avoid Port Louis on a weekday.
We did a few half day tours. Probably the best were the snorkelling and speed boat tour from Blue Bay to Ile aux Cerfs and also the southern tour including the coloured earth and national parks. Plenty of options though but certainly the sort of place where you can do as much or as little as you would like.

Mauritius was one of my Covid cancelled trips - still planning to visit one of these days. Also love to read a TR. It's not the easiest place to get to from here (SYD) - best I can find is Air Mauritius from PER - awards available using AC points but only 2 flights per week.

Thanks. Will definitely be getting a car and exploring the island

I’m stopping there on the way home from Europe in March for a week. Picked up AF J awards CDG-MRU with VS points and then MF/SQ J award seats MRU-KUL-SIN-ADL with Aeroplane points. The MF J seats on that route are 2-2-2 which isn’t ideal and the aircraft not as modern as the PER route unfortunately but I’ll give it a go

I think i read somewhere that they are going to 3 weekly

On the way home from Uganda, I squeezed in a trip to Mauritius in February/ March 2020. Great place but not enough rainforest and way too much sugar cane plantation for my liking (like Uganda!). Morne mountain in the south-west is great, and the spectacular coastal drive from there to Bel Ombre. Also Black River gorges national park and Ilot Mangenie.

Well worth a visit, but basically it is a paradise for miserable poms who think that anywhere warm is exotic (even Dubai fCs! ), and they sit around the pool frying their delicate skin to get a tan as some kind of status symbol.

Don't stay in the resorts, seek out one of the interesting self contained accommodation places in Flic en Flac.
