I flew on a Qantas 737 yesterday, in the window seat, and there was a rather obvious wet patch on the middle seat next to mine when I boarded:

I hope it was water but didn't investigate further...

The rest of the row was unoccupied, so it didn't really matter. But what would you do if you were allocated that seat and the flight was full? Ask for a blanket, perhaps?

It also got me thinking - this is obviously much easier to clean if the seat is made of leather. Do aircraft cleaners have an easy way to dry/get any stains out of a cloth seat, other than using a hairdryer or something?

I think you can just pull off the whole seat cushion and replace it? But I guess that would depend on how much notice the cleaning crew had, and what the spill was. Water shouldn’t be a problem, I’d imagine the seat would dry pretty quickly at altitude.

Human and it might need to be taken for a deep clean!

This happened to +1 and the FA said it was due to the last passenger spilling water. The FAs tried to dry it with towels with only partial success and apparently properly doing it would need engineering and potentially delaying the whole flight!

Resolved in this case by +1 being moved to another seat (not in J)
