What airports do you think require better connections from Sydney (or any other city)

I now have been flying regularly to Cologne (Germany) (here now) from Sydney and unfortunately I can not find suitable connections to Cologne. The only reasonable connection that doesn't require a train ride is Singapore Airlines SYD/SIN/MUC/CGN. I was wondering if there were others that wish they had better connections to any regular destination that didn't require extra forms of transport?

I state upfront I love trains, good ones that go fast and the heart of the CBD from the train station.

I have to ask what the problem with train connections is? They take you to the heart of the city, whereas CGN is 16 km out. Even DUS, which EY / DJ fly into, is only 46km away by road, and has fairly easy connections to Düsseldorf HBF and Köln HBF on the S-Bahn. If travelling to Köln Hauptbahnhof, the fastest route would be to FRA, then hop on an ICE Train which will get you there in 0:56 minutes, with a train going every 40 minutes. You can even have it on the same PNR, albeit you won't be earning points or status for the 300km trip from FRA.

I'd be surprised that CGN exists at all, except for the fact that the key city that the other city it serves, Bonn, used to be the Capital of the Federal Republic of Germany prior to reunification. Furthermore, the railway network was not as fast at the time the airport was built.

Most airlines from this side of the world simply can't justify flying to all these airports in such close proximity with such a good rail network.

What was said about the train. I assume MUN is Munich? The ICE from FRA has got to beat stuffing around in Munich hands down.

The European rail network is an example to us all, if you have sufficient population. It's a magnificent example of efficiency and flexibility. I love it.

Getting back to the original question, what Airports require a better connection from Sydney - MPN has been on my wishlist, but a lack of competition between Australian and MPN certainly makes it difficult..........

I agree with all regarding the trains in Europe. However when I travel here it is usually for business, I travel alone, normally carry last minute items (pro-types, samples etc...) which don't fit in my luggage and I struggle with the luggage on trains. (nature of my business) Despite the fact the train station is in the middle of town I normally still have to catch a taxi and it makes sense to me to have a connection that gets to to Cologne/Bonn and then straight to the hotel.

Once on the train I certainly like the scenery and the ambience.

Again - DUS has a fully functioning airport with flights ex AUH with AB and EY. Campbelltown is further from the Sydney CBD by road than DUS to Cologne, yet I don't see people who have to go there from interstate being upset. When I lived in Canberra heading to Sydney, the general rule of management was if going east of Kingsford Smith, fly, if not, drive. Time and money. As for your concerns with luggage - I do note that German Rail will look after your bags for you in 1st Class 1st class.

The connection you stated wit SQ/LH via MUC and SIN, or AB/EY via Berlin Airports and AUH will be your only connections, and from what I can see, that is unlikely to change.
