What are eligible purchases

"Eligible purchases" are simply purchases that are eligible to earn rewards points or to count towards spending to receive bonus points. Every credit card issuer defines "eligible purchases" a little differently, so you need to dig deep into the Terms and Conditions of the card and/or its rewards programme to find out what purchases count, and what purchases do not count.

Most CCs would say that "eligible purposes" are more-or less everything except payments to Government and Government entities and cash advances; most exclude BPay payments and the like, and some exclude payments via PayPal and other third-party payment processors. A few exclude gambling. But all are different.

In the case of ANZ, the definition of "eligible purchases" is found on page 5 of its Rewards Programme T&Cs. Here's an extract:
