I mostly fly domestic for work and have just the once flown business on a Canberra - Melbourne flight.I'm looking to go to New York with my partner for ten days in July. Last minute decision to go overseas. My question is i can get Qantas economy return for $2059 OR premium economy for $3942.I have 130000 points, so could upgrade us to business (partner has some points as well) if we take the premium ticketsBUT what are our chances of getting an upgrade? I am silver, partner is bronze pleb :-)Is premium even worth it? Is the $2000 each worth it? Would we get the Points upgrade?Wise members I look to u for guidance :-)

Suggest you start at Premium Economy and try to go points off that as you have Platinums,Golds and in the case of your partner Silvers.that is a pretty big queue. If you miss the upgrade Premium Economy should be better than Economy for the long haul.No one can say if this bumps higher status flyers....I think it does but a personal call by a Platinum might get them set rather than you.

Hi, I have done the trip to NYC in PE with my partner last year and just booked it again to do it in August this year.
PE is definitely a better experience than Y. Better seats, got some sleep, better food and smaller private cabins and better service. Keep in mind that US domestic flights are in economy. It then comes back to cost, we bought our tickets on sale and the cost was about $4000. I think it is good value. At regular prices of $5K + I am not so sure. PE sale is still on till 30 June, but I would book quickly.

I also believe that you have better chances of upgrade to J from PE than Y. I read that somewhere on AFF, maybe somebody can confirm.

In a nutshell, Go PE for the right price.

Since one of the PAX is silver, they may have a better chance of upgrading to J from PE than other Silvers wishing to upgrade from WHY.

Been thinking the same myself as J hard to get with points direct SYD/LAX return. I'm SG wife is SB so might have chance of J upgrade one way or if real lucky both.
