They are Melbourne , Paris and New York and as this is my thread I give a very honorable mention to Modena.

Why Melbourne it's is my home, I have traveled to a lots of city's over the years and for me Melbourne has most of the component that make for a great city .

Paris is where I spent my first trip with Dr H she who must be obeyed, and I did kiss her on the Eiffel Tower.

And New York it's the vibe, it's like another world and since 9/11 the people have become nice a fun place to eat and explore.

Modena ( Ferrari, food and Corsano Francescano )

As for Disliked

Los Vagas it was great in the 80s when it was a mob town, but now it's a fun park for the under 30s Cancun without the beach.

London, I find it to be dirty and not welcoming, and the service at a lot of hotels and restaurants is just dreadful.

Toronto , it's like Adelaide doing steroi_s, so pumped up but nothing to do.

A honorable mention for Cancun this is the place that rednecks go to mate and the only reason you would go their is that it's the way to Cuba and Chichen Itza

The Dyslexic Traveler

Favourites: Rome, Barcelona and Washington DC (really hard to narrow down to only 3 could easily add at least another 3 on almost the exact same level)

Dislikes: Cairo (sprawling, ugly and everyone seemed to be on the take), Johannesburg (decided to spend my 2 days not venturing much out of the hostel but probably chose the wrong place to base myself) and La Paz in Bolivia didn't blow my socks off either... I found KL quite boring as well as not a shop-a-holic...

New York, New York, New York - so good they named it thrice!

I also love Bath.

Least favourite

Hmm I'll get back to you on that...

Most favourite ... I loved Antigua in Guatemala - gorgeous low rise town, Barcelona - all of Spain really, and Singapore - delicious food and a fun pit stop to various Asian adventures.

No votes for San Ignacio in Belize, Colombo - food poisoning can really ruin an experience, and Delhi - way too many touts!

Most liked Cities (sorry it's more than 3 citites) - New York (as above), London (i love the pubs, museums etc), Paris (what's not to like), Florence (food, museums, Tuscany etc), Tokyo (it's a cleaner version of NYC) & Kyoto (Japanese culture at it's best...)

These are cities i wouldn't visit again - Manila, Las Vegas, Macau (where the casino's are).

Toronto , it's like Adelaide doing steroi_s, so pumped up but nothing to do.

I don't mind Toronto, it reminds me of Melbourne with the Trams etc, the people are very friendly, and parts of Toronto resemble Brunswick, Prahan etc

Likes - London, Hong Kong, Rome

Dislike - Shanghai, Barcelona, Edinburgh

Re: What are you three favorite cities and why and your three most disliked cities

I'm going to stick with "World" Cities here.
Likes:
  • Sydney (Birthplace of Australia, so much fun to be had if you look around)
  • Singapore (Food, safety, interesting attractions, variability)
  • Berlin (open minded, historical, curious)

Dislikes:

  • Rome (the romance of the city that is the birthplace of Western civilisation is very quickly spoiled - Mrs Here2go as a student of Ancient History was devastated)
  • Vienna (if you speak English or ask in high school German for a non-smokingsection of a restaurant they assume you are American, even though some of the restaurants are reminiscent of the Canberra Bushfires)
  • Edinburgh was most overrated, customer service was worse than Australia!

I like Edinburgh.. had a great 3 days there.

But my 3 fav cities

NYC, London and Rio.

I like alpha cities.

Is that a euphemism? :p

Favourites: Charleston, Boston, and Milan

Dislikes: Paris (Full of French people), Detroit, Montreal (Full of people thinking they are French)
Tony it could have been a Euphemism if i could spell it, and you know it has a definite Benny Hill quality to how it sounds.

Liked - Paris (not sure why some don't like it, always found the French fantastic), New York & Chicago

Disliked - have to get back to you on that one.

TG

Like - There are way too many . Sydney ( as i'm bias to where i live ) , New York & Berlin ( could also throw in Barcelona , Boston , London to name a few others)
Dislike - Dislike is a harsh word , i prefer too look at it as cities I dont see a need to go to again . Paris , Munich & Edmonton

Like Miami, New York, Hong Kong

Dislike London, Atlanta, Melbourne,

Re: What are you three favorite cities and why and your three most disliked cities

Likes are pretty predictable:

  • Paris - Three times there, great accommodation, weather has always been perfect and unlike others have never met a french person there that didn't do their best to help. So many things to see, all within walking distance of your hotel, to me it is just light years ahead of any other tourist destination
  • Venice - Booked the Westin for 4 nights but when we got there they didn't have what they considered a suitable room. I was happy with it however they rang the Danielli and we ended up being given a suite in the original palace section overlooking the grand canal for which we only had to pay the Westin standard room rate. Best/most luxurious room I have ever had and they also gave us 50% off all food and beverages because of the (supposed) inconvenience caused. Even then I still couldn't afford to eat dinner there but breakfast on the rooftop terrace on a beautiful spring day is one of my favourite tourist memories. Venice truly is a beautiful city especially at night and in the morning when none of the day tourists are around
  • Boston - just exactly what I had always envisioned it to be. Small enough to walk around, beautiful old streets and neighbourhoods and lovely food options. Nice people as well

Honourable mentions to San Sebastian, Cologne, Kingston CAN and being a Sydneysider and against my better judgement, Melbourne which truly is an international city

Dislikes maybe a bit more contentious:

  • Rome - They want your tourist dollars but really don't make any effort to make your stay enjoyable. Really have to go along way off the beaten track to find a decent cafe or restaurant
  • New York - I do enjoy it for a few days and my wife absolutely loves it, loves the shopping (which I hate, I don't think there is a shoe shop in the whole of Manhattan we haven't visited at least twice) and always insists on staying there for 10 or more days which is just too long for me
  • Chennai - Go there for work and unless I can book into something close to the coast like Fisherman's Cove, is not something I enjoy. So much poverty on display from the moment you come out of the airport, it really does make you aware how fortunate we really are

So many other cities I could have added, so many more to see, would be an interesting list to revisit in a few years time
