Hi all, I've got an upcoming business trip to SIN flying SIA in cattle class. I've checked online and they say I can bring one item and carry on, 7kg. Do I read this as gospel ? I will have a 7 kg small bag, a small laptop bag and a suit bag. Will this fly or should I consider checked in for the suit and the small bag ?

The laptop bag is fine. It won't count towards the limit.

Garment bag, depending on the size, may or may not count towards the limit. I haven't not flown SQ Y + garment bag myself to comment on this but I think this really depends on the dimensions more than the weight.

And aside from the extra baggage issue, while I've never been checked myself recently but I did hear of some people having their carryons weighed so it would be prudent for you remain within the 7kg limit.

You can always give it a try to include the sui carrier. seems reasonable.

I've noticed that it is the discount carriers that seem to weigh the hand luggage at the time when people are checking in their other bags.

Thanks guys, on reading the SIA rules, I'm going to check in the bag and carry on the suit bag and laptop and I should be fine. I was hoping to be HLO but can't be done.

Yeah good choice. While inconvenient, that probably is the safer way to go.

I'm fairly sure the official rules count the garment bag as 1 bag so although it is rarely enforced, you probably can't argue if they do try to enforce it at the gate.
