Mrs Albatross had a short business trip to a regional city. QF missed the baggage and in the end it was delivered back to her 5 days after she was back home. She had to complete her business commitments without the pre-arranged business samples and of course also had to buy clothes and toiletries to get through the days while she was away.

What level of QF compensation are people receiving when things go astray like this?

Interested in how you fare. We received some QF Pyjamas when bag delayed in SYD recently. Will ask for some compensation when I get around to providing feedback, but don't know what to shoot for.

By chance did Mrs Albatross pay for her flights with a credit card that provides domestic travel insurance?

Unless the business samples were things that aren't allowed to be carried in carry-on I would have thought with all the baggage issues of late that it would have been prudent to carry those in carry-on. If it was a small plane and your carry-on bag was too big to go with you into the cabin, it could have been put in premium hand luggage where it's taken off you as you go to board and returned at the end of the flight.

I would guess re the business samples they'd say to claim under your travel insurance if that covers it. As for the lack of access to clothes and toiletries that may be different.

You should check the terms and conditions on the e-ticket for the trip.

It took a little bit of email banter wherein one party (QF) tried to move the issue onto another unrelated airline. I have no idea what that email agent was smoking. In the end we settled on a cash settlement that will cover the out of pocket expenses.

My motivation for taking it through was that unless these problems are causing financial impacts to the airlines then they wont fix them.

It would have been nice if we had consumer legislation that says "$xx for each hour delay for bags."

Probably charge extra.
True but in a competitive environment, the airlines that aren’t incompetent and constantly paying the compensation, will be able to charge lower fares.

For delayed bags whilst away, it's usually "reasonable" expenses for essential items and receipts required. There's no dollar limit as such.

I think it's much harder (gusting impossible) to get compensation for the period after you return home.
