Most people keep a collection of something, besides their superannuation / nest egg and family heirlooms of course.

While travel instantly brings about the notion of souvenirs, what kinds of things do you keep a collection of at home from your travels? These can be things that you just get in the course of travels, other times you might make an effort to find and purchase these things.

I know a bunch of us don't collect anything at all, in the interests of keeping a lean home and less wastage.

For me, I am a horrible hoarder when I travel. I collect the following things:
  • Amenity kits
  • Pyjamas
  • Playing cards
  • Boarding passes (especially First Class boarding passes)
  • Airline pens or stationery
More as a matter of course and not specifically, but one day perhaps, but foreign currency (especially as it ages and gets replaced with new issue currency).

In addition, as I travel around, I collect on behalf of my father:
  • Hard Rock Cafe T-Shirts
  • Sew-on patches for cities or countries I've been to (these are getting increasingly difficult to find; even more difficult when you can't translate what this is in the local language)
My sister was known for collecting fridge magnets.

Fridge magnets here too, nice and small to bring home, and I love seeing a reminder of our travels everyday 😁

I am strictly hand luggage only.
I bring back fridge magnets from my travels, especially tacky totally OTT ones.
Conrad soft toys, ducks, LH ducks etc.
Occasionally will bring back a beautiful book mark.

I don’t really do Amenity kits unless they are pretty special/ not something I already have.

I don't generally buy souvenirs and don't like having too much "stuff", but the one thing I personally collect is boarding passes. I still have most of the boarding passes I've received since I was a child.

Sometimes I do also take home printed menus if they've given out on flights.

When I have checked-luggage, I buy a book on either the history or culture of the country I'm visiting or a booklet on one of the extra-special historical site I've visited.

Used to keep amenity kits to give to the local women's shelter, but they stopped accepting them (?) .

Mostly fridge magnets. But once upon a time it was shot glasses as well.
I also keep all the amenity kits, but that's about the flight rather than the country visited.

Every time I head to Hong Kong, I always bring back something tea set related from Flagstaff House.
Not sure that counts, as it's not really something I collect anywhere else. 🤷‍♂️
