what does "HOT on the tag mean

Perhaps if it was the same plane for the onward journey it could mean, Hold On Tarmac ??? because of a very short layover

i believe it's referring to a hot transfer - ie one that is tight and will require immediate action

from FT:

"My airport does not use HOT labels, but rather prints them on the tag. Downstairs we have what we refer to as a "HOT Can", namely the ULD containing baggage making hot connections (this container is the last one in and the first one out, regardless of whether it contains priority baggage or not, in order to give the baggage the best chances of making connections). Also, I have seen several times HON baggage is printed with HOT labels even on flights outside of the MCT (HON baggage is separated into the loose cargo compartment onboard so it can be easily retrieved without having to offload its container)."

I just did ORF - DFW -LAX today- 55 min connection DFW was HOT tagged ......far end terminal C arrive - far end terminal A depart - amazes me how they do this in the time frames (most of the time).

thanks it makes sense for "HOT" tagging to be used for tight connection.

I did see the BBC "24/7" airport show that airplanes have a loose compartment for certain items. "Hot" items would be ideal in this compartment.

Makes it more likely to believe that tight connection itineraries sold by airlines will be executable in terms of luggage. Though I would only book a tight connection if there is a later flight going the same route.

I wonder how the HOT tagged bags are separated from unHOT bags. Perhaps the baggage handlers separate these at the loading ramp?

Can understand that a visible tag is not used otherwise DYKWIAs will want those tags on their bags
