I am looking for some actual experience of what QF do when you hit 2,400 SC.

I have not been "partner gold" for some years. Back then when you hit 2,100. My partner automagically got Gold. No calls, no paperwork. Just was done.

I am no longer with this woman, so I want to ensure she does not get a "gift" in the mail!

Do I need to call them, or will I get an email inviting me to pick something once I cross the line?

You get the option to pick your preferred option on the QF website.

In fact, since they implemented the new system, you actually need to call and make your selection - old selections have been removed. I found that out when my wife got her "new" silver card after 6 years of partner gold - I was not impressed, given I had just ended my membership year with around 5,000 SCs.

I rang and asked why she hadn't received her gold card and they told me that I had to re-select. There is apparently a time within which you have to do this, but they were happy enough to waive the time limit for me. Going forward, it will be automatic.

I re-qualified in December and when I logged on I was presented with the three choices. I took the 50k points. (I took PG previously - in July.) Didn't have to talk to anyone.

Cheers for the quick responses. My 8 year old will find herself supercharged to SG

Out of interest where is the benefit for her getting SG rather than you taking the 50K points. On a simple earning perspective she would have to fly 2 1/2 times to the UK and and back to offset the "loss" of 50K of points.

Also on the USA trip. Will have 4 NB with me. So her SG will help get lounge access.

How many guests can a SG (ie non-AAdvantage OWS) bring into the AA A/Cs?

I'm hoping 2! Ie WP 2. SG 2.

My Gut says 2 status members in a party of 6 should suffice.

Just checked:
Admirals Club ( R ) Lounge Access
Unfortunately it's only one for OWE and one for OWS. However, if your other 4 guests are young children that may be able to help your powers of persuasion.. there is the other option of picking 2 and leaving them outside

I crossed the 2,400 SC threshold around 3 months into the year. When I logged in I would be reminded to select the additional Platinum benefits on offer. This was also backed up with a notification via email. Interestingly enough I crossed the 4,800 SC threshold about 6 months into the year. I didn't get the "additional Platinum benefits" on offer screen however I did receive the notification email telling me I'd accrued 2,400 SC's and was entitled to additional Platinum benefits. My guess is there is some screwy logic that sends an email out whenever a multiple of 2,400 SC's is reach. I'm currently sitting at 6,450 SC's after 9 months and will see if this email comes out again when I cross the 7,200 SC's threshold (3 * 2,400 SC's).

Hi Chris. I'll take the bait... What's your flying pattern to make 7,800 SCs a year? I feel like I spend long enough in the air to make my c. 4,000 SCs...

A typical work related quarterly travel cycle is:

- One RTW trip in J (F on internal AA flights in the US) (delivering a minimum of 1,200 - 1,400 SC's per trip dependant on routing per quarter) or 4,800 SC's per year
- Between 1-2 ASEAN trips in J (delivering a minimum of 480 SC's per trip per quarter) or 1,920 SC's per year
- Three trans tasman flights - SYD-AKL-WLG-AKL-SYD sectors in Y (delivers 240 SC's per quarter) or 960 SC's per year
- One SYD-MEL-SYD sector in Y (delivers 40 SC's per quarter) or 80 SC's per year.

This travel pattern yields around 7,800 SC's per year. All these flights are with OneWorld carriers. As part of the RTW trips I typically also end up doing 2-3 additional Nth American, Sth American or EMEA sectors on carriers such as Alaskan, Delta, JetBlue, TAM and Aer Lingus which don't provide Qantas SC's.
