Hey guys,

I'm sure I read a thread on this somewhere not long ago but I can't for the life of me find it so I'm going to ask.

I'm on a trip to the US at the moment. Flew over in J with AirNZ and that put me on 980 SC My return flights will net me another 300 odd SC including the long haul LAX-AKL that I understand will get about 160.

?What happens when all the SC for the flights post to my account and a review is done with the excess S/C? Does the Velocity system recognise that I just earnt 300 SC and give me the 20 I need for Plat and then ADD the remaining 280 to my next review period, or does it add the 20 needed for plat and then forget about the remaining 280 as all flights where done on 1 day and my review period hadn't technically started yet? I really don't want to waste the 280 SC but I don't have that much faith in the Velocity system to carry them over for the next period.

Just after any experience.

Cheers,

You can get Companion Gold after obtaining another 500 SC on top of Platinum, then Companion Platinum after obtaining another 500 SC on top of Companion Gold.

Apart from that, any other SCs you earn before your Review Date have essentially no effect, except maybe to flag to the VFF executive that you're a loyal Platinum.

If you have family members, you can utilise Family Pooling to give them your SCs you earn so that they can work up status.

If you are currently on 980 SC's, I would suggest doing a flight whilst in the US to earn the other 20 SC's that you need to hit the Platinum mark. The extra 300 SC's that you earn on your return will then either go to your requalification or you can pool them to someone else.

Don't you have to earn your requalification SC's first? ie. 800 then an additional 500 for Companion Gold?

And don't forget you're going to have to have had 8 VA metal segments to get WP as well.

As anat0l mentioned, excess SC's count towards partner gold or platinum, but beyond that, nothing (unless they're planning on introducing lifetime status, which is what we're all hoping for).

Thanks guys,

I had heard somewhere (read here perhaps) that in my case I would essentially loose the extra 280 SC. I just want them to count towards my requalification for the next year, but since they will all come in the one go, and before my review date I'm not sure thats going to happen.

I think to be on the safe side I might have to do what Robd suggests and try and get myself over the line and up to Plat before the return home, that way at least the 300 SC for the return journey will count to requal.

Keep in mind that SCs will only go towards your requal once you're in to your new year - if your Velocity anniversary date is several months away, those extra SCs won't do anything. :(

I don't think that's correct. I'm fairly sure when you 'level up' your review date changes to 12 months from the date you reached the new level.

Thats my understanding and the source of my concern.

I made gold in April and this made my anniversary date the 20th of April. Since then I moved up to 980 SC thus needing 20 for Platinum before the 20th of April 2014.

If I made 300 in on hit on the 10th of August then they will go into my CURRENT qualification year, Ie, 20 April 2013-20 April 2014.

When my account gets reviewied the night of the 10th of August (or 11th of August whenever they get around to 'review') then I'll move up to Plat and my review date will then change to the 10th of August and I'll then need another 800 SC to renew my Plat.

So my issue is that only 20 of the 300 SC are actually useful. ... Presuming all the above is correct that is....

That is exactly what I expect to happen. That's why someone suggested you get 20 Sc before you get the 300SC.

Thanks Medhead.

Can anybody advise who credits flights QUICKLY? The AirNZ flights posted in about 48 hours. Should I do a few VX or DL flights? Which will post the quickest?

DL seems to post faster than VX,

Bear in mind though, any internal US flights are likely to take time to post and if they post after your return trip, it may all be to no effect anyway (miss out on the excess counting toward the next year tally and also miss out on the benefit of the 20 SCs as they will be backdated to the date flown which would in fact be in your previous year).

There was I believe, confirmation from a past VFF rep, that you could contact the GCC in the event you fail to requal plat by that margin or less and they will turn a favourable ear, but YMMV.

Thats my fear. I've got about 10 days before the return so I figure I might do a quick Mileage Run to try and tick myself over. Hence my question who posts the quickest. I read on some past threads that DL posted in about 7 days and then another poster said it was less than 24 hours....

Go DL, I took them earlier this month and they posted faster than VA did (around 36 hours I think). VX takes at least 2 weeks to post. I would advise a quick LAX-SFO/LAS run if that works with your current whereabouts. Just make sure your VFF number is in the booking and appears on your BP.

You're absolutely right - my read of the OP was that they were re-qualifying Platinum (which wouldn't reset the anniversary date), rather than upgrading to Platinum (which would).

Edit: a re-read and I totally missed that kaelo is talking about 1000 SCs not 800, which should have been the giveaway. Werps... :-|

kaelo, take a DL flight or two. They're not too painful, they recognise VA status reasonably well and post fairly quickly - all of my DL flights have posted in under a week.
