I'll be taking a flight from Madrid to Singapore on a BA ticket transiting thru LHR. I assume that my luggage will be checked through from Madrid to Singapore. If I'm delayed at Heathrow going thru departure security lines and missed my flight:
- Will my luggage go through to Singapore on that flight and I catch up with it on the next available one?
- Or will they offload my luggage at Heathrow and I've to checked it in again with me on my rescheduled flight?
- Or will I be lucky enough for them to delay the flight until I get thru security, as the luggage could be in the plane already?

If you miss your flight, your bags will either a) Not be loaded or b) unloaded before take-off. Except in certain situations, bags cannot travel without their passenger.

I doubt you will be held up in security that badly. If there is such a delay often you're not the only one in that boat anyway so they will hold the flight, or sometimes someone from BA will come escort you through the queue so you don't miss your flight.

If your flight from Madrid to LHR is significantly delayed, they will not often load the bags in the first place.

I remember being badly delayed from PVG SIN on SQ. I was connecting through to PER and upon arriving at SIN was given the option to take my onward flight without the bags as there was not enough time to unload and load them on SIN PER, or wait till the next SQ flight a few hours later. I took the first option and my bags were delivered early the next morning.

Many years ago flying QF PER-SYD-LAX my luggage took off before me on another carriers flight. wasn't until I went to do a missing baggage claim that another guy came out with a trolley asking "Is this yours?". Turned out they'd been there 2 hours!

On another flight some years later JFK-LAX-HKG-SIN my bags took a holiday in LAX for 24 hours. Then met up with me in PER.
