After a few months and a bit of conjecture about the outcome, I finally got an answer on what is going to happen to my 4 months of QP membership from 1998 thats been on hold thanks to WP or SG status since:

Approval has been received for a pro rata refund of the balance of your paid Qantas Club membership. These payments need to be returned to the same credit card used to make the original payment, which was an American Express account commencing with 3760 and ending in 1005.

Please advise the expiry date of this credit card so that we can process the refund.

In case this credit card is no longer valid, we require a Stat Dec form from yourself advising that the credit card was replaced by another, quoting the old and new credit card numbers and the expiry date of the new credit card. Alternatively, a letter from your bank confirming that the original card was cancelled and replaced by another credit card would suffice, but the bank would also need to quote the old and new credit card numbers in their letter, with the expiry date of the new credit card.

Not sure its worth the effort, personally I think its a bit rich to try and refund a card used 14 years ago, cest la vie!

Always worth "some" effort, perhaps not $ wise all the time but the satisfaction of getting your $ back.

Bordering on hilarious...I have often wondered what became of my suspended QF Club membership $$ - that was only from 2007 though so I guess it's safe for at least another 10 years by the sounds of things. With inflation, you have to wonder is there even any point??

What about someone reaching LTG when they also have (paid) Life membership of the QP ??

In case this card is no longer valid...

Love it! They're really not keen on refunding are they?

So if LTG is enhanced and, let's face it, it is more than just a remote possibility, will I need a stat dec to have my remaining QP membership reinstated?

"Honestly Mr Joyce, I know I have moved house twice but it really is me, please, please, please can I have my QP membership back."

I wonder too. I paid life membership in 2004 and hit gold a year or so later then went on to platinum ever since. So I'm well on the way to LTG. What's a pro-rata refund of a life membership that has been used for 1 or 2 years?

I hope all refundees declare it to the ATO as income if they previously claimed the QP costs as a deduction. (;))

Blame the bean counters and/or their credit card merchant for such a silly rule...

In my case, I think it would exceed $3,000.00. If 2 years use of a nearly $4,000.00 life membership can be pro-rata refunded. It's not an insignificant amount...

I guess it stops people who get their QF club paid for by their employers getting the money back (which is what would happen to me as I have about 12 months of credit stored up, will never be used but I didn't pay for it!)

That is indeed a most convuluted process; and there is a reason for that -- to discourage claim-back!I wonder whether Qantas would be prepared to credit the equivalent in FF points. Good for them and easy for the customer.

Interesting thought, however should someone slip off SG/ WP and need to use up their QP membership that's been on hold, who is to say the same employer is getting the benefit many years down the track, something of a double standard, one for refunds, one for something that can be ignored.....

I purchased Lifetime Qantas Club and within 12 months, I hit Platinum and have not dropped below since.

I'll reach Lifetime Gold soon.

I'm not expecting much!

I have 6 weeks of QP membership held over from 1996. I hit 14,000 LTSC's a couple of years ago (now tally over 21,000).

YMMV, but for me (specifically) I doubt it's worth the effort.

I have about 4 months. But only LTS and heavily crediting to AA. So. Unimportant. :-)

I paid for QC when I first started flying in earnest and within 11 months was SG. I've been WP for years and still am now. I should hit LTG next year, so I wonder if I want to go through the hassle described for 1 month of membership?

Easy answer: no!
