What is best - point to point or round the world ticket?

I am a Velocity member with approx 400,000 points. I have gained most of these via credit card spend.
I am flying to Hong kong in November so this should up my stratus credit.
I want to fly to New York on 12/3/14, then to London on 29/3/14 then home to Brisbane on 12/4/14 for 2 alduts.
I have attempted to book this through your call centre and spoke to someone with a strong accent who told me that these flights were not possible :?::?:. I cannot book this through any of the Vrigin websites - not for lack of trying!

Can you offer some advice on how to do this please?

It's not totally clear from your message...do you want to book these flights using your Velocity points?
 
Unfortunately a single flight to HKG will not do anything to improve your elite status (it'll put you on the path, but won't get you any elite status).

If you're using points, you have to book segments. If you're paying, look at an around the world fare yes as one way long haul flights are typically more expensive than a return flight. Within the USA, point to point is the way to go. You can easily nest too, say do a round-the-world with an open jaw (eg fly into LAX and then out of JFK, but do internal flights point to point on separate tickets).

Lots of options but as bcworld says, we need a little more information :) Keep in mind, VA only fly to Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi. They then use partner airlines beyond this.

Look at the Velocity site and try and book to London and you should be able to. The round-the-world fares I believe you'll need to call VA Sales, not velocity.

No - not using the points as this trip is for business purposes - saving them for later!
I have tried ringing VA both the Australia and Atlantic - and I am told that I can''t do this trip....which makes no sense as I can find the flights on the various Virgin sites....
I want to do the loyalty bit with one company - but they make it very difficult!

I recently booked a VA/SQ Circle Pacific fare which is a smaller version of a RTW ticket.

You can't book it online.

Good luck calling VA or SQ to book it.

I ended up trying 2 travel agents without success.

I then went to Best Flights & booked via them. Others here have warned about them being hard to deal with if you have to change flights.

The Specials page of the Velocity site will give you the T & C as well as prices & suggested routes.

As others have mentioned, VA don't use a lot of their own metal internationally.

Hi Deb,
Sorry if I ask the obvious, but have you tried booking a flight from AU to New York? You will fly on our metal to LAX and then through our partner Delta.
You could then fly to London on Delta, and back to Brisbane from London on our other partner Etihad. Where you will fly through Abu Dhabi.
As Drewbles mentioned, you would have to book each as a separate segment.

Apologies in advance if you're sick of hearing this from AFF members, but this sort of thing would be neatly taken care of if you were in an alliance / participated in one of the alliance-based RTW fares..

Which is unlikely to happen when the major shareholders are Virgin Group (unaligned), Etihad (unaligned), Singapore (star), AirNZ (star) and has a major codeshare agreement with Delta (skyteam)
