Was wanting the input of the AFF community on this one...
Looking to travel to South Africa on SQ, perhaps into CPT and out of JNB or vice versa. The SQ flight operates SIN-JNB-CPT-JNB-SIN. Would I earn SCs for the JNB-CPT leg as a separate flight? Or is it all rolled into one consiering it's the same flight number?
Thoughts?

I am not sure with SQ's earning, but VA recently changed the rules that you would get points/credits per sector. Someone here will know, but I'm assuming you're booking with SQ?

Booking with SQ, yes - but I'm not sure whether it being the same flight number will change things...

From Kris Flyer's website will only be credited for flights on the Singapore Airlines/SilkAir segments. For instance, for a Singapore-Frankfurt-Munich flight, the Value will only be credited for the Singapore-Frankfurt sector, as that is the flight segment operated by Singapore Airlines

Will you be crediting to VA?

Crediting to VA yes. But it will all be SQ. SQ operates a SIN-JNB-CPT-JNB-SIN flight 5x weekly.

It depends on how it is booked ... if you had a stop in JNB it would earn at segment level, even if same flight number. If it is booked SIN CPT you will only earn that way. Most earn with any airline is based like that .... some over exampels would be VS201/02 SYD LON, this is via HKG, unless you book SYD HKG LON ( stop) you only earn SYD LON as it was direct .... QF is the same when using same flight number ( QF32/ 10 etc) SYD LON

And another thing to be careful of.... not all SQ fares will earn for VA members, so best to check the fare basis/ booking class before paying!

I don't think a stop can be done on the SIN-JNB-CPT flights...so therefore it would be a simple SIN-CPT crediting?

Need at least a W class on SQ. if booking online, on the flight selection page, there's Conditions link on the bottom right to click that comes with a popup which says the fare class.

If you're booking a through fare without a stop in JNB (and assuming the flight number doesn't change), it will credit as SIN-CPT. Same thing as what happens if you book SYD-HKG-LHR on VS without stopping over in HKG - it credits as SYD-LHR.

If it's all the single flight number then you will be credited as one sector SIN-CPT (and then CPT-SIN).

Also as mentioned before, SQ is an all-or-nothing in relation to fares and crediting SCs and points, so you need to check that you'll earn anything at all for VA if you are doing it economy. The good news is that full economy (usually W class) is usually not that much more expensive than discount economy (e.g. Sweet Deals). The SQ website is far more user friendly than most in that it will actually give you that fare class info straight up.

The upside to SQ I find is better SC earn than most partners on the flights that do earn. Working at a university we are prohibited from flying anything beyond economy, even for long haul (even premium economy requires 'from the top approval and is given very, very rarely - I've had it only once when I've had to fly to LA arriving the night before a one day conference trip and then back that night). Even economy is strictly controlled on a BFOD basis. I find using SQ is often better than VA or EY, as 'full economy' earns are usually available for same or less price as 'discount economy' earns in VA or EY, so you essentially get twice the SCs for the same price.

Also note that anything not actually on SQ metal (and this includes Silk Air) will earn diddly squat.

Hopefully it is okay to post my query re Domestic status credits and sectors... Is it correct that as long as different flight numbers, status credits will apply per leg, treated as sector? e.g. BNE - MEL with changeover in SYD. Two flight numbers therefore am assuming return trip in Business (reward in current promotion) will earn 160sc?

Sounds correct to me - each fight is treated as a separate sector because each of the flight numbers would be different.

If a flight is booked via the SQ website, would it still be a VA marketed flight?

The VA Velocity terms and conditions states that to count Eligible Sectors require VA as marketing carrier. That T&C slightly confuses me still

Eligible Sector means a flight journey, from an origin to a destination:
(d) where Virgin Australia is the marketing carrier (this means that the flight number starts with a DJ or VA prefix).

Welcome to AFF. :D

The answer is in the excerpt you quoted: "this means that the flight number starts with a DJ or VA prefix".

For example, consider below: SQ228 is a Singapore Airlines Marketed (and operated flight) flight,VA5520 is a Virgin Australia Marketed flight, operated by SQ. They are both the same flight.
