Can anybody tell me of their experiences with SAS. We are thinking of using them to fly to Scotland. We have been using EK but are now finding them too expensive. We will be flying Business class.

It was a fair while ago, but I found their ground service good, inflight service was consistent with other full service (though business was reasonably good). Nothing was a stand-out above competitors with them, but I wouldn't have any issues flying with them again. They do (did) fly 767s out of Asia, hence weren't that great compared to the bells and whistles of larger birds (and you'd be flying another airline e.g. Qantas to connect there).

I'm afraid my SK experience is quite dated, but I flew them BKK-CPH-OSL, then LHR-CPH-SIN many years ago in Y and found them comparable with QF who I flew with on the same trip.

I think it was a 767, and my most vivid memory was that they were somewhat obsessed with dishing out bread rolls...was offered them (and 'refills') many times during dinner service.

I think I sat in a window seat BKK-CPH and not once got out of it.

SAS many years ago changed from 767 to A330/A340 for long haul services.

The business class on the A330/A340 is on par with most international carriers. Seats are lie flat but angled. Service tends to be friendly and professional. It's perhaps not pampered as much as some Asian airlines. Food and drinks are usually good. There is a small self service snack and drinks bar. The rear business class toilets are huge with two windows.

It's a different service concept within Europe and different again within Scandinavia. If you are flying from Denmark to Scotland you should be placed at the front of the plane with the middle seat of the 3-3 layout free but leg room is pretty much economy class.

If flying from MEL, then you might consider flying China Southern (CZ) to Amsterdam. They have very good J fares at around $4770 throughout Feb/March and the overall flight times are better than SAS. You also get to pick which Scottish city you wish to fly into, so overall it would be about $5200.00 (if booking through CZ or travel agent)

Credit FF points to your Skyteam program.
By the way, some sectors on CZ will actually be in First Class
The flight will be MEL-CAN-PEK-AMS and you will require a Chinese visa.

I have used SAS several time in the last 12 months - ther are some good J class fares out of Australia currently using TG for the first sector then onwards to CPH (A340). I find their J class product more than acceptable for the price- angled lie flat.
CPH is a nice airport to transit early in the morning with decent onward connections to the UK (certainly better than LHR experience).

Never flown SAS ing haul but flew a whole bunch of J short haul last year.

Short haul product mainly on 736-600. Business class is front rows, but only an economy seat; however, the middle seat of 3 is always blocked.

Cabinservice very attentive, food was outstanding. Always on time.

The SAS lounges are excellent, very Scandinavian (think Ikea!). I was very impressed. Far better than mist short haul J products in Europe.

Thanks everybody,
We are indeed now looking at CSA, and we are interested in them. But there is no information about seating and in flight service etc, on their website.
They do say a change is as good as a Holiday, so a change and a holiday together should be doubly good don't you think.

I flew with SAS last March from Amsterdam to Oslo and it was quite a good flight.

They were very quick and didn't muck around getting people on and seated before taking off and on landing they were even quicker to pull up and get people off.

The actual flight was fairly standard the only memorable thing was how quickly after landing we were off the plane.
