What is Virgin Australia's flagship route?

With the withdrawal of CNS-HND flights announced today, it got me wondering... was this Virgin Australia's "flagship" route? It was certainly their longest one. But if it's not this one, then what is it?

Back when VA used to fly to LAX, I would have said SYD-LAX (appropriately numbered VA1) was their flagship route. For Qantas it's pretty obviously QF1 from SYD-LHR.

With SYD-LAX and now CNS-HND gone, what would you say is VA's flagship route?

Related but slight OT, AN's "flagship" route of AN1/2 was a SYD-MEL return rather than a international route iirc. ANi's Intl routes was in the 800 series iirc.

I would say that not all flagship routes have the 1 & 2 flight numbers... arguably Lufthansa's flagship route, for example, is FRA-JFK, and that gets LH400/LH401. LH1/2 is FRA-HAM

So based on this = BNE to PER is the only candidate.

According to "flightfrom.com" MEL has 17 VA routes and BNE has 25. SYD has 15.

Melbourne is actually Virgin's primary hub. In terms of flights and passenger numbers.

I would be interested to see the numbers, but I would still think from a "flagship" route perspective, Brisbane would still pip, Melbourne. BNE is the foundation base (first route and first maintenance facility), BNE remains head office for the company and BNE has the most overall routes. So maybe not flights and passengers, but continuous and significant history of the company...... BNE?

I reckon some people here would fall of their chairs if they realised VA flew to more individual destinations from PER than from SYD and MEL respectively.

XCH if a flagship, maybe short lived one....... this is a contracted service by the federal government....... tenders for the new contract closed last month!

I guess a better question would be... if you were VA and you wanted to show off the best that your airline had to offer to someone important, which route/flight would you send them on?

The shortest flight possible so the lack of any comfort or service doesn’t stick out and where delays don’t hurt as much.

I'll have a go at bit of seriousness, could say to Queenstown, but I'll kick in AUS - NAN.

Ripper close holiday destination that appeals to many, non Bali bogans more importantly.
