Seems the pensioners have $100 notes to rip off the taxpayer. Australians have an average of 10 greenies each. What's your reason for having them?

I use them to impress people. Its amazing how the 15yos go crazy when you hand them over for a 50c soft serve. They show them off to everyone important in the place and as thy always ask if you have something smaller, obviously they treasure them.

I never have them or use them. To me they are often a reflection of people doing cash business in the black economy.

I coudn't even tell you the last time I had a C-note in my wallet...

Don't earn points with cash...

Green Tree Frogs were only something that you got from Medicare before direct credit to your account.

I have a daughter and a partner and I never see $100 dollar notes.

I hate paying with a $50 for something because it seems to be if you buy a Latte and then it is gone.

Generally dodgy people, gamblers and tourists. It is hard to run into $100 notes during normal transactions.

But you do earn points when you collect the cash off others and pay by card. That is how I see the odd $100 note. I then take them with me overseas and use them to purchase foreign currency (often THB). Larger notes are preferred for these transactions and sometimes you can even get a better rate than using small notes.

Indeed I have seen different rate explicitly advertised for US$ exchange rates.

The reason that poker machines accept large notes is because many, many years ago the poker machine industry lied to the state governments saying there was a shortage of $20 notes and that their machines needed to be able to accept the higher denomination notes.

For travel they are a must. The less notes you carry means the less space they take up. Also when going out, it keeps the wallet slimmer. Also for birthdays and Weddings, $100 bills make a bigger statement.

Not sure if Pensioners are entirely to blame. A lot of people don't deposit their money into banks.

I know one friend whose father had 20 grand in paper bills (50's and 100's), who stored his money in the roof! Turns out rodents found his loot and ate most of the bills beyond recognition. They took the scraps to the bank and the bank could only replace a couple hundred dollars of bills as not many of the scraps had intact serial numbers.

My father in law always kept a fair bit in the freezer - he liked having cold hard cash.

I've lost one before. That said, I read the same article (about pensioners keeping them to rip off taxpayers) and one of the suggestions was to get rid of $100 and $50 notes as everyone uses cards these days anyway. I then had a beer in a pub this afternoon and was told I'd need to use an ATM and be slugged $2.50... So while a lack of $100 or $50 notes wouldn't have helped, we're not a cashless society, and I wish we were.

Whenever I go to the casino with friends, they always take their winnings home in $100 notes. There's simply less of them.

I was mildly amused reading that article - laying blame on the greedy pensioners...

I dear say however that the bustling cocaine trade of Sydney's Eastern Suburbs is more to blame.

Cash is cash, but $100.00 in one note makes less impact that 5 $20.00's in my wallet.
I remember many years ago in NZ , my father needed cash for a transaction and was " allowed " by the bank to have $100.00 notes, the serial numbers were recorded before he was allowed to take them away.
I think there should be more C notes , not fewer

It is I, Leclerc !

Agree entirely. Just don't know any pensioners with a single $100 note

I also like to take Thredbo dollars with me when travelling internationally. Less bulk and easy for currency exchange
