Sunday 17 April 2016's news of a storm at Newcastle Airport (owned by the local council with code NTL) that closed the check in area due to a partial cave-in of the roof (guttering could not cope with the amount of rain) and hence saw flights cancelled reminded me 'what building-related disruptions have led to passengers suffering a flight delay or a cancellation?'

My contribution is that on Christmas Day 2011, my international flight was cancelled due to a severe storm in MEL that hit about 1730 hours. The building related bit was that part of the check in area (which as many will know is under MEL airport offices, and hence not directly exposed to the roof if I recall) had water leaking from the ceiling in at least two places. It didn't affect passengers checking in but was an unexpected sight.

I exclude occasions when an individual has not been properly checked through security and hence everyone has been ordered back to 'landside' from 'airside', but there must be a myriad of other things that can go wrong.

Power blackouts that might delay boarding due to manual processing is another I can think of but which I've not experienced.

What stories (facts) can you come up with?

Experienced the power black out. Wasn't a huge amount of fun as it was delaying flights and it started to put at risk both FLounge time plus my tons and tons of connection time.
