Ok, poor planning by Mrs Shintaro but I now find myself with return flight from MEL to ADL for both of us in the next few weeks. Unfortunately this was booked via a Qantas holidays package and the flights were really cheap...:p

So now Mrs Shintaro needs to be back in ADL a few hours earlier, can change her flight but it is $8 more expensive than buying one off the Qantas website now (Spoke to Qantas Holidays). So my question here is, if I book her on another flight, not the same as the original one I will be on. Is there any way I can take advantage of the other flight that I will be on but she will not...! Is it possible for me to work it out so that the seat beside me is vacant, hence at least I get additional room beside me for my $$$$.....? Will online check-in and last to board on the plane work for me...? :?::?::?:

This should work if you do not cancel her booking and use OLCI.

Only issue I could see is if QF cancelled the later booking if she is on an earlier flight but it is theoretically possible to be on more than 1 flight a day.

You could always make her new booking without putting her QF number in, then once both flights are completed submit a claim for the missing points.

I would ring and ask QF if you can use that booking for extra room, trying to pass your self off as your other half at the same time as trying to get onboard as yourself would make for interesting times at the gate and complicate legalities such as the need for a correct passenger manifest.

If I use OLCI and are the last to board, I'm pretty sure the seat next to me would be free... However I do like the suggestion of claiming points for both flights, however I don't think this is possible unless there is a record of the miles of both flights being actually flown by the FF member...

This post really shows how inflexible the flights are on a Qantas Holidays flight, never used them before, and perhaps never will in the future. Just lucky its a short low value flight that I am replacing. Still, if Qantas really wants to look after a FF then perhaps it should be looked into. Yes I know Qantas Holidays is not owned by Qantas, but it does have their name in it...so they do have something to gain or lose.

The real problem is that Qantas Holidays do not have access to the same fares (booking class) available on the qantas site, hence to change Mrs Shintaro's flight costs more than just buying a new one on the web. possibly not as messy either... :p

Have resisted going DJ.... Even though it's cheaper. Just hope my loyalty to QF is worth something these days...some around here would question this value is hard to see.

Looks like its points and not SCs, which would be preferable in most cases I suppose.

Personally I would not bother calling Qantas in this situation.

There is nothing wrong using OLCI for both passengers and when getting to the gate as the last passenger mention that the other person will not be travelling on this flight. Manifest would be printed with correct number of passengers on board and a magical vacant seat.

Only issue would be if someone sees said vacant seat and wants to move there. You can say no but it is not really your seat. Not sure the excuse that you paid for the seat is good enough.

But if you called QF you are likely to at least get extra points for what is no extra cost by comparison to your method, unless of course you see no value in points .

I agree, I paid for "a" seat bit not really that particular one that one... However If I hold an OLCI printout, and mention that my partner is in the loo then what really can they say...?

I'm just going to do OLCI for both of us and say something at the gate just before boarding closes...

How would you earn extra points when the booking is for someone else and you want to change names because the other person can't make it now?
