Hi,

I'm really very new to this whole thing (first post), but have been studying hard over the last week. I'm starting to pull together an Alaskan trip for May 2014 and need some advise from people who known what their doing, rather than someone (me) who "thinks" they get it :) Cruise is booked 23rd May 2014 leaving from Vancouver arriving into Seward 30th May where we will spend up to a week "wandering" about in search of the ultimate bear picture:D . We (my mum and I) will then leave out of Anchorage.

I've not yet bought any AA miles as I want to make sure I can get flights. I have about 250k in QFF points which when topped up from my Westpac points will sort me out for 2 OW BC fights from LAX via Hong Kong on the 9th June. I'm also trying to squeeze in a side trip to Las Vegas for about 3 nights.

So the flights would look like this -

SYD - LAX
LAX- LAS VEGAS
LAS VEGAS - VANCOUVER
ANCHORAGE - LAX
LAX -SYD (hopefully will be able to use my QFF points for this one)

I will need to buy the domestic flights but am trying (naturally) get the long haul flights in BC using points.

Anyway when checking the AA site there are no BC award flights for 2 available, so , have I "missed" the boat so to speak, or should I just keep checking daily until something comes up. In the meantime should I buy the points for us both and hope the flights turn up or ...............

As I said I'm a newbie and this maybe a basic type question that the more experienced of you will roll your eye's at, sorry but still on my L plates.

Also haven't quite gone the abbreviation thing under control yet, so it can take me 2 pages or more in a post to understand what everyone is saying :)

Thanks, any help will be a BIG help for me.

Welcome aboard wittont, have you considered flying on different dates? Maybe a day or two apart? It is often easier to get a single ticket than two together.

Also, with AA points, keep watching the sales. Occasionally they will let you buy bonus points or have sales so you can get them cheaper.
