Last night came back from BNE-CBR, all of the check in and gate staff were wearing red polo shirts with Qantas embroided on them, and black pants.

Have I not been paying attention and this is the new ground staff uniform? It just really looked like DJ had taken over ground services at QF in BNE.

Its part of the NGPS scheme (next generation polo shirt), anyone who works in Brisbane or further north knows how much better they are to wear than normal mexican workwear :mrgreen:.

Are they designed by Morrisey? They look pretty cheap - would have been better to just cut the arms of of some of the J class PJ's

Maybe there was a ground crew convention and they all lost their bags coming back so they had to resort to the QF emergency pack? Then again they would have been grey tshirts in that case.

Ok, well i guess we are looking for further sightings of the enhanced QF Ground uniform - or if it is just a strange Sunday night thing at BNE

OzBeachbabe may be able to shed some accurate light on what was going on, doubt they are wearing polos today in the rain.

I'd just be glad they weren't wearing singlets and footy shorts :mrgreen:

Some people on this forum will no doubt ask "Should they be able to work in public view in such a uniform?" Whilst others will possibly choke on their pipes, tighten their neck-kerchiefs and ask "More appropriately old chap, ought they be allowed to enter the QF Lounge? Surely not. Pip Pip!"

Not a big issue: Sunday. Brisbane. Groud crew. Sounds fine to me - as long at FAs don't start wearing it :)

Pip Pip!

I have a feeling I read somewhere it was tied up with the rollout of NGCI - but I can't find any reference to what I read!

Was just kind of surprised that it was everyone, other than lounge staff. It seems kind of strange that QF would have a location specific uniform that is so different from the regular one. I actually wondered if it had something to do with some form of industrial action (not necessarily we are all going on stike kind of stuff, but rather the A/C doesnt work, and until you take steps to fix it we need an alternative uniform etc).

That's a thought. Do QF sponsor a Brissie based sports team? Could be some sort of promotional thing?

Of course, now you have piqued our interest :)

It was first implemented in MEL due to people saying that there wern't any staff on hand to help people out. Though they were wrong, there were lots of staff, but they just blended in with all the business people (due to the dark jacket and white shirt).
So they implemented it in MEL so staff could be seen more easily, gradually being phased out due to the frequent travellers getting used to the system.
BNE just launched so they will have the red shirts for a bit longer.

I looked for some kind of extra branding on them - but they just appeared to be pretty regular red polos, no printing on the back or anything, just a Qantas logo on the front.

Only other promotional activity in the terminal was the selling of Legacy pins, but could not discerne any link between the ground staff, the shirts, and the pin sales - which were conducted by some young guys who made an announcement to the queue prior to bording (I kinda hate that - but quite like Legacy as a charity).

So it is a mystery...

[OK - so it's not a mystery. If that is the plan, it did not work for me!! The new font on the signage, and the people in polo shirts actually made me think that something weird had happened at BNE and i was in fact in the wrong bit of the terminal. I would understand it if there were polo shirted people at the kiosks, but it was everyone from Busienss Class Check in through to the Gate Agent.]

Due to staff changing tasks every hour or so, it's not worth them changing shirts every time they are in a new position, if they did there would be too much time wasted on staff changing.

Like i said, it will probably only be for a few weeks/months or until staff can't be bothered wearing it anymore (ie MEL).

I noticed this last night too (also in BNE; travelling to CBR but via SYD).

I was sent to the service desk to get a BP as my card wouldn't scan. I was initially hesitant to approach as I thought the person there might have been back office and not actually manning the desk - but nope, he was a service desk member.

It doesn't bother me either way, but it was confusing at first.

Personally I do not think it is a good look (looks cheap) and would much rather prefer the old uniforms which at least made them look prefessional....
