When do I need a new ticket number?

Reading so much AFF advice to people not to trust info from QF about flight changes and to make sure they have a new ticket number and it is all just really confusing.

I have an upcoming QF itinerary ADL SYD SIN and vv. It is a cash fare, not on points. A few days ago QF sent me an email saying my flight had changed, followed later by another email and another PDF eticket showing the change is a 5 minute later departure ex ADL. MCT is met with plenty of time.

The ticket number on the 2nd PDF is the same as the first one I got when I booked. Previously I wouldn't have been worried by a 5 minute change that QF appears to have handled just fine.

So exactly when do pax need new ticket numbers? Because of a time change? Because of a flight number change? There are lots of posts on AFF and many of them just seem alarmist and unspecific about what would have triggered the need for a new ticket number. I find it hard to believe that a 5 minute time change on a QF flight would mean I can't trust the eticket number on the 2nd PDF from QF but that's the effect of some posts I've read.

If you are flying QF metal there is zero reason to stress about ticketing if it was booked with QF directly. They will not cancel their own flights because its not ticketed. It’s partner airlines that are the concern.

In any case load it into checkmytrip. If that still has a ticket number then it’s valid. If it’s blank it means it’s in the process of being reticketed.

Also within Qantas manage my booking, if the change button is greyed out and it says your booking Is processing, that’s also a sign it’s getting a new ticket.

I've got a 6 leg mixed classic rewards itinerary - 1 with QF (was originally CX) and the rest with partner airlines.

I made a change last night - replacing the said CX flight to a QF flight and 9hrs later, it's still not yet ticketed (despite the trip being fully ticketed prior to the change).

My Qantas manage booking portal has exactly what you've mentioned - the change button and cancel / voucher are both greyed out and when hovering over, it says that "your booking is processing".

My concern is, with the backlog from yesterday's debacle, whether or not my partner airline flights may drop off since it's still in the process of being ticketed.

I called Qantas and they've mentioned it should be ticketed within 24-48hrs (consultant who changed my flight), and when I called this morning to check on it, the 2nd consultant mentioned "up to 1 week due to the backlog", but also mentioned that since it was ticketed before, it shouldn't fall off and will be safe.

If 24-48hrs I'm not as concerned, but if it takes a week for it to be re-ticketed, I'd be very concerned if my partner airline flights drop.

My understanding is that you should only need a new ticket number if one of the ‘coupons’ or segments substantially changes. A flight time should be a revalidation of the existing ticket number.

If you change the airline or routing that requires a new ticket.

Although that being said, some have re0rted new ticket numbers for even the simplest of things. So who knows there days!

I think it was a more general question. Given a 5 min change in the OPs case didn't result in a new ticket number, but there have been plenty of reports here that a fairly minor time change HAS resulted in reticketing with a new number ... what's the cut-off point or defining event? Maybe different booking engines ... or company policies?

In a similar vein, you may know - say there is a small time change in a flight and it needs to be 'reticketed'. At what point does a pax have a valid authority to fly (whether or not they physically hold a new e-ticket). Is it possible to identify the point or stage in the booking engine that needs to tick-over?

Except that post #31 specifies it's about 'QF issued award tickets', leaving me none the wiser about a cash fare.

I can't quite believe a 5 min time change on an all QF itinerary would cause a problem, but I can't quite put anything past QF these days 🙄

******

This is the classic example of where, if QF does not do anything, there is a chance the whole booking might disappear.
Hope for the best that the QF CSA you contacted has done all they can, and that you get the amended e-tix.
But on the other hand, with the other horror stories that QF has'nt completed their side of some process, other members/colleagues on here, relate how their whole booking got cancelled.

Read my post again. QF metal.

Because you add it with the passenger name. You can add it for any pax on the booking.
I've done that. It reverts back to showing the name of the first passenger entered. Putting my name is pretty much ignored and when I click on passenger it isn't mine just the first one. It's happened with KLM and BA airlines bookings and also now Emirates.

It’s check my trip, not check our trip. ;)

It works, but you can only view one passenger at a time.

Ok fair enough. I can check both tickets on same pnr but have to delete the first before viewing the second otherwise the second lot of details won't show.
