 Was out at the Range early this morning for a practice session.... opened up the shed.. hooked the target trailer on to the car and pulled it a short way out of the garage area...then went to sign the attendance book...

Came back to find 2 juvenile roos poking around the trailer.. perhaps attracted by the hay bales that were on it? Like any young animals they were playing around in fine fashion...

Too bad the phone was in the car.... would have made a cute photo... but when I walked over they took off just like teenage boys caught in the middle of some mischief!

(And yes, we have quite a few native animals living on/around the range.. )

Clearly it doesn't take much to make me happy.. but that was a nice start to the day!

Stories like this are why I always carry a camera, a Canon IXUS that is small and fits in my pocket.

I am assuming this is a shooting range of some sort? Would the roos be in danger of becoming the targets?

Not likely! (and certainly not on "my watch")

The vast majority of club members are not only well aware that ALL native animals are protected*... but also like having them around..... For the very small number who might be tempted to think otherwise the consequences of shooting at animals on range property are well publicised!

The only time I know of where roos were shot here (and I've been an active member of this club for 20 years) was just about 2 years ago when some yob a'holes drove their 4x4 through the fence to get in after hours...... @&*$%&#

My favourite example of our furred (or feathered) friends behaviour........Watching a magpie sitting on top of a target frame while a group is shot on the paper 10" lower is hilarious.. the bird tends to look down as each shot goes through the board.. as if to critique the shooters performance... I've seen that several times and it cracks me up...

* Yes, many kangaroos are culled each year... but that is on a permit basis...it is not "open season" on them by ANY means...

I always carry a camera. Phone that is. Which is great as you only need carry one device.

Too bad the technology wasn't available when I was young, back in those days you had to lug an enormous film camera around.
