Ok so I have reached VA platinum and then earned enough status credits for the next year (to 2024) and I asked the VAFF team if I get enough credits to retain platinum again does it extend to 2025. The answer was no so there is no point accumulating any more status credits with VA (except for gifting gold). The question is as I have a business class trip to Europe coming up with SQ am I better off quoting their KF number and collecting the credits there or am I missing something that would make it better to keep accumulating VA credits. (Background info: travelling with partner and have family pooling on)

Great idea, hadn’t thought of that 👍 Only thing is that I suspect there may be more tiers coming so maybe gifting gold or platinum would achieve the same result while I still accumulated credits just in case. Thanks P

Any reasoning or basis behind the suspicion?

Velocity has to up their game/benefits provided to their elite ( Plat/Gold) members before thinking of coming up with any higher tier of membership. Don't see anything in cards for velocity membership tier to be expanded in near future.

I don’t think VFF will change to add further levels or lifetime status. As others have said I’d also consider:
- Accruing to gift platinum
- Crediting directly to SQ
- Pooling to a relative

I doubt VA would try to match QF, don’t think that worked out well before. Building separate business lounges would be a money out (and they had to close a couple of Clubs).

You can currently on earn status up until 2023. When you go over the requirement to retain you can gift gold. Normally this is when people then pool to a family member switch to Qantas / other airlines and build up with them.

You mention gifting gold. You can also gift platinum
Yep, in the past I have been able to gift multiple Platinums and Golds. Not a lot in it for me but but it’s a bit of a treat for family and friends who are casual flyers and are able to get lounge access and even use the benefits around the world

This has been a long time problem for people who gain Platinum very quickly, gifting status, pooling works.

Another thing that could keep people keen would be Life Time Status

One option might be QR for Avios and OWE status. The earn/burn on QR is not that great but the currency is transferable to BA and IB so quite flexible.

Air Canada Aeroplan could be another option for Star Gold and good earn/burn.
