Both my wife and I are QFF Platinum.
The 'partner gold' thing is therefore no use to us.
It seems I cannot give it to anyone else (offspring, sibling etc).
So, once we have collected sufficient status credits to ensure our Platinum renewal for the next year, there is seemingly no motivation to remain loyal to Qantas.
One therefore explores more exotic foreign carriers until the membership year expires and then it's back to Qantas for a while to ensure maximum benefits on their domestic network.
This seems a weakness in the QFF loyalty model. Surely they should dream up some additional motivation for people to stay forever on the Qantas treadmill?
Have I missed something?

Welcome to AFF.

One thing to keep reaching to attain is Lifetime Gold status. Once I reach Lifetime Gold with QFF I swicthed all my earning to AA Advantage, where I get far superior value for the FF miles that with QFF. I now use my remaining few hundred thousand QFF points for upgrades when flying with QF (both domestic and international). Having Gold FF status with QF still gets me sufficient priority on the upgrade waitlists, and my OneWorld Emerald with AA gets me into the F Lounges when flying internationally.

An example of the better points/miles value was my last redemption. For 3 x business return seats from BNE-MEL, QF wanted 300,000 points (only routing available during January was via MEL) plus $750 in "taxes". For that same seats, AA cost me 105,000 miles plus $143 in extras.

And on my last ATW trip, I used two of my 8 free VIP upgrades to go from business to first class on AA long-haul international flights (NRT-DFW and LAX-LHR).

Of course! Thank you ma'am. I think I have lifetime silver but of course that's not much use for anything... Thanks again.

Or the other option is to do just enough travel on * alliance to get * gold (if your travel is international). Between oneworld Platinum and * gold, it opens up a lot of choice when it comes to flying as you don't feel constrained to the one alliance to get status benefits. But you may want to wait until LTG on QF until you start doing that.

Sorry Bloke!
I did think Nelly must be of the fairer persuasion.
Thanks Colin.

well, I like to think I am getting fairer all the time .... but my family just remind me its grey, not fair, that describes my hair colour .

I have 'given' my PG to my sister for her upcoming LONE4. I just marked her down as my partner. We have the same surname so this makes it pretty easy.

As a bonus it got her into QFF without having to pay the joining fee.
