Is that possible? Didn't Madrid go through the train bombings in 2004.

Maybe somewhere like Malta, Sicily would be safe. I really want to go back to Greece for a week but can't bring myself to book.

Eastern Europe is very safe, affordable, and fun. Avoid the western half of Europe - the flood of illegal immigrants and wannabe terrorists, combined with excessive taxes and extortionate prices, makes it thoroughly undesirable.

Hmmm - what that article thinks is good value, I think is horrendous value.
One can do much better than that.

I second Eastern Europe! Fantastic part of the World and much cheaper than Western Europe. I can't believe so many of my friends overlook it or don't even consider it.

If you do go to Prague, it's really worth the effort to go to Cesky Krumlov, even better if you can stay overnight.

All great locations. If you want to avoid the crowds, I would lean towards Slovenia. Gorgeous compact little capital of Ljubljana, wine-growing areas of Maribor, coastal Trieste and stunning Julian Alps and lakes around Bled.
