My wife and I are planning on going to Dublin as part of our end-of-year Europe trip, and neither of us have been there before, nor have any of our close friends.
Unfortunately it will be a very short trip (only 2 nights) and I was wondering whether anyone had any suggestions on where to stay (either area or specific hotel) where we will be in the thick of things and can make the most of our limited time?

Thanks,
Trent

A couple of years ago we stayed for 3 nights at the Arlington Hotel, paying around $130AUD per night including a fair breakfast and were happy with the hotel.

The Morrison by Doubletree - directly across Liffey from Temple Bar - a no-brainer - fabulous location - fabulous service.

We stayed at the Fleet Street Hotel. To be honest we loved it was right in the heart of it has a Tesco accross the road, convenient parking accross the road, laundromat around the corner and most importantly all the nightlife was right on our door step. It does get noisy and if being in the heart of nightlife, bars and drunken people doens't appeal I wouldn't stay there, though the hotel does provide ear plugs as no aircon of course!

Anywhere near Fleet Street would be good, theres shopping near by with all your souviners etc, plenty of places to eat and plenty of pubs, good access to the tourist stuff and public transport too.

Through Airbnb I booked an architect designed small 2 bedroom house in a nice part of city. Unfortunately I just cancelled as I'm not going now. It looked great, the host was responsive to all my queries.

Thanks for your advice everyone. The general consensus seems to be in or near the Temple St precinct. Appreciate it!

Temple Bar is indeed tourist / party / bar / music central - they seriously know how to party long, hard and loud. One great point re the Morrison is whilst it is only 200mtrs from Temple Bar once you cross back over Liffey each night it is as if the hotel is in a different world - the Liffey is indeed a great 'separation barrier' from Temple Bar.

Wherever you choose to stay keep safe and enjoy every moment of this fabulous city. Make sure you do the Guinness and the old gaol tours - fantastic.

If staying in the vicinity of Temple Bar/Trinity, I can recommend the Dublin Literary Pub Crawl for the craic and a bit of a stroll. If into history, I recently did the 1916, and Michael Collins Walking Tours, bother about 2 to 2.5hrs long, great value and you learn a lot.
