Home!!! :)

Well in reality the one place that truly fascinates me is India.

I just spent 2 weeks there jumping between Panaji, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Bengaluru.
I'm hoping it's nicer out of the cities, because what I saw in most of them wouldn't have me rushing back in a hurry....

(And I agree with Home... :))

Hadn't thought I'd get a chance to visit Gallipoli without significantly disrupting my sporting travels...

..but I got in on the TK deal BKK-IST-GRU and have booked it with a stopver in IST.. Will do a Gallipoli tour from there. Excellent. Fly on to the USA from there for my "usual" visits...

Would REALLY like to see Antarctica... but that is likely to be WAY down the track...

Am visiting Taipei and Beijing for the first time in July... and am visiting Europe for the fist time (after 30 odd visits to the USA ) next year... A short and very focused trip. Duxford... Portsmouth.. Caen, Bayeux and the Normandy invasion areas...

Not hard to see what my historical interest are eh?

Always wanted to go to Alaska. I have been to Seattle so many times and regret not going over to ANC, its only a 3hr flight. Booked to go next month on Jetblue Long beach-Anchorage for $140 each way!

Anyone been there? Looks like an amazing place.

Trooper

I did both Normandy and Gallipoli in 2010... Do you have any ideas on how you want to tour these places? I did a tour from Istanbul down to Gallipoli in one day, left about 7am or so, 5 hours down by bus, about 5-6 hours of a tour around down there to quite a few sites then 5 hour bus trip back to Istanbul arriving about 11pm... Not bad but a bit tiring... think it was a reasonable price...

Normandy i got to Bayeux the day after D-Day (didn't quite want to run into all the crowds on 6th June itself) but still all the tour companies seemed all booked out, so you might want to book ahead (i had to try and see Point du Hoc, Omaha Beach and the American Cemetary msyelf by local bus and almost came unstuck) Battlebus seemed to have a good reputation... While in Bayeux your also only a day trip away from going and visiting Mont St Michel if you want to as well...

Just in case you hadn't looked into it too much yet...

Well I am continuing to tick off things on my bucket list.Bank account replenished so in 3 weeks off to BKK,ICN then cruising up the Russian east coast,Aleutians to Anchorage. Then NYC and New england.Tokyo,Kobe and Nagoya before back to SYD.

Then November BKK,NRT,MCO,DFW,LAS and back to SYD-to see the grandkids.

Also the 2012 plans are coming together-April/May to South africa-Kruger,Kwa zulu,Victoria Falls and Botswana before CPT,LHR then through the US.

In October will fly via Europe to the US ending up in Barbados then cruising down the South american coast and a week on the Amazon.

But after this next trip I become a patient!.Finally going under the knife to get a new knee. This one was not on the bucket list.

Thanks casanovawa

I looked at the one day Gallipoli trips.. and decided on the 2 dayer! It is the same tour as you did no doubt... but overnighting not too far from ANZAC Cove..then going to Troy on Day 2 and back to Istanbul...just a bit less "travel stress".. as those days are bracketed by the long BKK-IST and IST-GRU flights (Assuming TK honors the fares of course!) Going to be a tiring time no matter what...

Am also looking at a 2 day tour in Normandy... I am most interested (as an old military parachutist myself) in the areas the 6th Airborne Div operated.. and am VERY keen to see Pegasus Bridge... (along with Eban Emael that must rank as one of the most daring coup de main operations ever.. and both gliderborne!)

Have found a tour mob that offer a tour right on the money as far as my interests go... but their website isn't terribly good when it comes to dates etc... Hmmmmm

Sorry... my enthusiasm is getting the better of me...

Evil thought... I wonder if I can visit Eban Emael as well......

Loved our trip to Alaska in 2010. Jetblue were excellent on our flights on other parts of our trip.
If you get to Anchorage check out the Glacier Brewhouse & try the calamari. Food on the street corners is also fine and bars are good for a quiet beer at my age!:)

Okay I will stick to the ones I will probably do as opposed to the ones I want to :) Will also keep it to international...

Remainder of this year:

* I am hoping to get to Angkor Wat for a couple of days at some stage. Will probably involve shopping day or two in KL or Bangkok.
* Still deciding on whether to go to Cairo or Delhi later in the year. If DJ get an Asian partner, perhaps Delhi to see Taj Mahal (I am on a mission to see of the Wonders of the World)
* March I am planning on a trip to London to see family and friend's 30th. Will include a stopover to Petra (for obvious reasons) and I cannot go to London without visiting Spain. If I do Delhi this year, then Cairo too.
* Later in 2012 it will be either Buenos Aires & surrounds, Machu Pichu and surrounds (Easter Island!!!) or Cuba. If I hold off on other trips, perhaps all three.
* At some stage I will prob fly to the states for 3 days of shopping - when my wardrobe runs out and if the dollar is high :)

that's pretty much it.

Nigeloz, if you need a passenger for that Stelvio Pass drive I'd be there with bells on!

As I have probably mentioned before, I like visiting random places. You know, the ones that aren't filled with busloads of bogans or American tourists...

Travel plans/desires:
North Korea (in the process of booking now)
A 'stan' - probably Turkmenistan or Uzbekistan (researching the both currently)
Antarctica
South America - especially Galapagos and Macchu Picchu (researching currently)
Easter Island
Sri Lanka
Middle East - Jordan, Iran and Syria (researching Jordan currently, however all the Syria tours seem to have been stopped in recent days due to events...)
Italy, Greece, Turkey, Portugal
Lapland over Christmas (In the process of booking for Dec 2011)

Also, I want to attend every grand Prix on the Formula One calendar - currently these are:
Melbourne - went this year and also previously
Kuala Lumpur - went this year and also previously
Shanghai - will visit the city this year but not the race
Turkey
Monaco - been there, walked the track, but not been to the race yet
Spain - 2 races - Valencia and Barcelona, been to BCN but not for race
Silverstone - UK - went to the race in 2007
Germany - been to the country but never the 2 racetracks
Italy - had glimpses of the country but neither track
Hungary - planning to attend this year - flight booked :)
Belgium - planning to attend this year - flight booked :)
Singapore - been there every year, planning to go again and everything booked. Even taking Mum ;)
Japan - Accom booked, really hoping no cancellation!
South Korea - currently being defeated by booking website but planning to go this year
India - first race this year, hope it goes better than Comm Games... I am holding off booking but will no doubt be there
Abu Dhabi - planning in progress
Brazil - supposed to be a great atmosphere, provided you don't get held up at gunpoint like world champ Jenson Button last year. Planning (sans armed holdup) in progress

I like the way you think drmikki.
Other thing I would love to do if money was no object would be to follow the professional cycling tour as it travels the world, including the Tour de France,I'm not a great fan of the sport itself due to the almost constant stories of performance enhancing drug use but I love watching it on tv just for the scenic value alone so I'd also love to hire a sports car and basically shadow the tour,of course there would be issues with road closures on race day etc but I'm sure that with a bit of planning it could be done, but it would take a lot of cash to do though so I'll have to be content to watch it on SBS.
Cheers

I've been everywhere, man, I've been everywhere.

(or at least it feels like it)

For some reason the Galapagos Islands has moved up on my bucket list, I wonder why.

I guess when you read locations that other people have been to then you sort of think that it would be a good to visit.

Paris, is on the list and I am visiting the place in June.
Hawaii is also on my to do list.
