Suggestions for best area to hire a car from. We are looking at a 10 day one way car hire (would love a mustang/transam but will settle for something else) to travel from NY through Philadelphia, Washington to leave in Virginia next year. We are staying at the Hilton Times Square but would be ok getting a cab to another area (less traffic?) to pick up the hire car. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

We hired a car (can't remember the company) and picked it up from a place very near Times Square. The traffic was fine and we had no problems getting out of the city. I was actually amazed at how light the traffic was compared to what you always see in the movies.

Thank you Rebecca. It is good to hear first hand experience of the traffic situation.

It is generally cheaper for one way rentals to start/finish rental from airport locations - check Argus for rates which do often include the one way surcharge. In NY I would hire from JFK as there is a fixed taxi fare to JFK from any location in NYCity.
